Outdoor Range

Postby LePetomane on Tue Feb 12, 2013 5:22 am

Are there any outdoor ranges in the Twin Cities area where one can just go and shoot without being a member? It' a pain in the ass to sit on waiting lists here, having to be sponsored there, etc. Is that the nature of the business?

I have a .270 that I'd like to shoot and don't want to shoot it inside. Any thoughts?

Closest one I know is Del-Tone Luth in St. Cloud. They have pistol, shotgun and Rifle. Rifle is 100 and 200yd ranges.

Shady Lane sportsmans club in Glencoe.... Membeship is 25 or 50 a year.. Something like that. No waiting list. Pay your membership, and go and shoot anytime you would like. They have a club meeting the second tuesday of every month.

http://www.shadylaneclub.com is their website.

Another option, Isanti County Sportsmans club. No waiting list, show up at a meeting and pay $125 for the first year, $75 for remaining years. Membership covers you, spouse, and children. $5 for guests of members.

Oakdale is open to the public on weekends, starting the weekend after Memorial Day. Doesn't help you now, I know....
I think that club in Hudson, (someone will have to help me out with it's name), you can just pay a fee and shoot. Maybe a member over there will reply.

Dodge Center Sportsmans Club in Dodge Center, MN - nominal membership fee available at local businesses and no waiting list. Open 8am-dusk every day. Trap league is Wednesday nights.

About 20 miles closer to south metro is Kenyon Sportsmans Club, which is on the north side of Kenyon along Hwy 56. I assume this has a similar arrangement for memberships. There's a contact number:

I know, these are a little out of the way for a metro shooter, but they offer a lot more flexibility.

You can also use either of the above links to search the DNR's list of shooting ranges that might be closer to you.

Anyone been to that place? I have actually never heard of it and I am also looking for an outdoor range until I get into Oakdale Gun Club, which who knows how long I am on the waiting list for. I am getting sick of shooting indoors. Curious if it is a nice range, as I might have to check it out one of these weekends.

If you don't locate anywhere, I'd be glad to have you join me at my gun club in Cokato as soon as it warms up a bit. It has up to 300 yd. range and I believe a 400 will soon be available. I love shooting here.
