I don't know about you guys, but I was about the proudest husband in the world seeing my wife enjoy shooting the .45. I am in the same boat now trying to find the right .45 to be her carry weapon. Her concern is that they can be heavy and bulky and she is pretty petite. She thinks that my Shield is maybe even too big for her which would rule out the XD-S. I want to see that new Boberg .45 when they release it. I guess I might just have to buy a bunch of .45s  until she finds the one she is comfortable carrying.

On a related note: Has anyone shot any of the Boberg models?

Boberg came to the Oakdale Gun Club picnic last year and I shot one.
It's a nice little pistol. Bill's in Robbinsdale had a used one for $900 a week or so ago.
Arnzen Arms had a new one for $ 1100ish.

Seismic I may have found a new love yesterday! Colt Python...
Also, if you happen to end up with a pretty expanded 50 bullet I would really like to have one.
I like how they look.

Our wives already have .45s.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I didn't happen to mention that she still wanted the striker fire instead of the hammer. That is where the problem came in, not too many of those around those around with a manual safety. Looking like we we will probably go with the millenium pro or a 24/7. Thanks for offer Sawgrass, kind of scares me if I hook you two up it , it may cost me a lot of money. Will run across it her and she what she thinks.

I laughed when I typed it...but I'm simply referring to lowering the hammer and a DA first shot.

Well, the wife got her hands on an XDs on Saturday afternoon and decided that it was the one for her. I managed to track one down today (I was tempted to buy both of them) and took the plunge. Let's hope she can handle the recoil.

I won't get in trouble for buying another gun so long as it is for her...right?

I would love to shoot an XDs. I'm under the impression that it's for one purpose only and not exactly something to hang out and practice with at the range.
I feel that way about my LCP. It's not a nice comfy shooting gun, but it fits in my shorts pocket in the Summertime.

Is the 1911 the only .45 that your wife has previously shot?

It is and she never got to shoot the XDs, just fondle it. I think we will spend some more time on the 1911 before she makes the jump to her new one. I picked this up at the Wolf's Den and they also had an extended mag there so I got that too. My thinking is that the longer grip will help while getting used to the new weapon and then she can drop down to the standard capacity mag when she gets comfortable.

In my experience the transition from a Govt. steel framed 1911, to a CCO steel framed 1911 to a Compact light weight 1911 is QUITE noticeable.
It's going to be interesting to go from a 1911 to a XDs. Keep us posted.

If for some reason she wants to try anything else, I might have a few that she can try. I find a stainless compact single stack 9mm Beretta to be comfortable.
Also a G-19 is pleasant to shoot.

Training and technique is going to be critical in keeping her interested.

My wife just switched from a 642 airweight 38 to a Springfield XDS .45acp. She loves it.

Has she looked at a Glock 30? That was my primary carry weapon until I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it, right after I put in the 3.5 lb trigger items, heavier recoil spring and night sights. Now, I'm looking for a new Carry gun :x

Temporarily, I have to carry her "Old" S&W 642 Airweight. At least it doesn't drag my pants down :deadhorse:
