Some day you will be the best dad for keeping it for him, along with a pile of ammo to feed it. ;)

Have him give you a list of wants. Keep the Kimber. I think with kids it is uncool right now to have guns. My niece turned down a Glock

I would just keep it for him... period. Even if he never changes his mind, some day he will value it because you did.

That's a good point.

I would just keep it for him for now. If he is anything like my brother. Who had no intrest in guns at all when he was younger and grew up around them. He will want to have one sooner or later. Just like my brother did,

My dad always got me cheap tools instead of the nice stuff he had himself (his collection is 90% snap-on). I'm sure I had a less than thrilled response to the idea of getting such a gift from him more than once in the past. I now have more nice tools than he does. It really is a quality/perspective issue for me. It's not that I wouldn't have liked a socket set - it's that I didn't want one from horrible freight (yeah, they weren't around back then, but the analogy is accurate) so I said I didn't want it.

None of you ever told your mother you didn't want clothes for gifts? I tell my in-laws I don't want anything for every possible occasion they'd provide a gift - I don't want the junk they think I do. So rather than having to lie and muster up an act of being appreciative, I simply deny the opportunity or I give them very specific suggestions (complete with a SKU). Usually I just play it down and they throw a 50 in a card anyway.

At least you have the fact that he is a boy going for you. I have an uphill battle with 2 girls.

BTW, were you buying white shrimp at costco today? ;)

Thought that was you. Yes, wild caught white from Gulf of Mexico are better than farm raised black tigers from Asia. At equal price, it's a no-brainer.

I say keep it, and wait for him to change his mind. That's better than giving him something he doesn't want right now.

As someone else already pointed out, maybe a good knife would be a better choice.

Sorry to hear about your son's wishes.

Obviously, some sort of school "let us teach you how to think" indoctrination at work?

My 16yo daughter would think she hit the lottery if I gave her a gun, much less if she got them all because I died! I truly hope your son changes his ideology at some point. We all know that a gun is just a tool, much like a screwdriver.
