Sounds like a smart kid, I wouldnt want one either as a gift it makes it harder to get rid of something and get the one you really wanted.
Now if someone was just wanting to get rid of a Glock I could understand and would relieve them of it for resale.

Obviously, some sort of school "let us teach you how to think" indoctrination at work?

My 16yo daughter would think she hit the lottery if I gave her a gun, much less if she got them all because I died! I truly hope your son changes his ideology at some point. We all know that a gun is just a tool, much like a screwdriver.

I don't think it's school indoctrination. I think it's natural teenage "rejection" of parental stuff and girls, cars, impending college. I'm just disappointed. Not a crisis, and he'll probably come around in the next 15 years or so.

His reply was that he would sell most, if not all of them. (sigh)....time to redo the will.

That's really too bad. My grandfather's guns are among my most prized possessions...

I have two tween/teen daughters, one loves to shoot. The other isn't that interested (hoping outdoor shooting not in a lane next to someone immitating FA with his AR will help). The funny thing, the one that likes me least likes the things I like the most

I agree with the others who say keep it for him...with a twist. Maybe set aside the funds and let him pick one when the day comes?

Kids that age make all kinds of "decisions" and later clain to not even remember it. Some temporarily think that they are vegetarians, liberals, democrats  , hippies, all kinds of silly things, until they come to their senses. Store the gun.

My youngest step son went through much the same period though at a slightly younger age. Having anything to do with his parents or me was not on his "cool list" and this carried over to things liked in common. This continued for several years until he began to revisit some of his earlier hobbies. He eventually asked if I still had the left handed shotgun I had bought for him to use. He was a bit disappointed when I told him I sold it but perked back up when I handed him the Browning Citori he wanted when he was shooting but I couldn't afford. I'll guess he will change his tune later on in life. It may be in a couple of years, it may be longer but I wager he will change his mind.

I didn't care a whole lot about guns at that age. I too, as stated above, was too busy chasing tail and look back and wish I had shown more interest in guns. Especially since my grandpa would ask me every sunday to come out and shoot skeet. I always said no cause I wanted to sleep in or whatever dumb reason I had. BUT DAMN now I look back and go WHAT ARE YOU DOING! GO SHOOT!

As for advice I dunno I'm not old enough to be in your shoes but at the same time to old to be in his age.... sorry man. I'm sure some day he will change his mind.

I was in to hunting with my dad in my late teens, then got away from any interest in guns 'cause of college, other interests, the chasing tail thing, marriage, kids, etc, but now that I am in my fifties guns are an obsession.

My son has a carry permit but would rather shoot an Airsoft gun than his real Beretta.
My daughter will go plinkng with me every once and awhile with her 10-22.
I don't push it with either of them.

I do <very> much enjoy going shooting with my pop who is in his 80's.
And it was a total blast prairie dog hunting with my son and dad a couple years ago.

Your son will come around when the time is right.

I have several guns from Grandfathers and Uncles since past. They will never be sold.

Maybe a better idea would be to build him a Get Home Bag and make the gun part of it. It would be an extra $100 in backpack, survival gear and maybe a lock box for the gun. You may even want to vacuum pack some money, ammo and Bic lighters for the bag. He will think of it as an insurance policy that takes up little room in the trunk that may help get him home when he needs the help.

Just my .02.

I remember some of the spectacularly bad decisions I made with money and possessions that would boomerang into regret later in life in that 18-25 age range... Perhaps buying the gun but keeping it in the safe for a time down the road when he's grown into himself a bit might be the way to go? I'd go with silver eagles over the iTunes card though short term... :)

I remember being OK with the '94 AWB ban and voting for Bill Clinton when I was 18 because he was much cooler than the other guy, plus it drove my Dad crazy... and I knew everything there was to know even about things I didn't know anything about. Still working on the humility part in my late 30's but it's amazing how much my perspective and values came full circle back to where I started after being responsible for my own well being for a few years. I literally remember slapping myself on the forehead on numerous occasions when I realized how many smart things my parents had shared with me that I'd ignored (or failed to hear while sharing my own brilliant thoughts) resulting in dumb/expensive mistakes.

And here I was pissed I wouldn't be 18 for another 10 months when clinton was running the first time. I wanted to vote against him so bad!

With all the hate towards Glocks, I feel the compelling need to remind everyone that I am running a Glock pound/rescue shelter.

Anyone who has an unwanted Glock can turn it in to me, no adoption or processing fee required. I promise that I will take care of it for the rest of its lifetime, in a loving home, and leave you free to pursue your other desires.
