New .308

I finally took my new toy out to play yesterday. This is a Remington SPS Tactical in .308. I’ve had it sitting around here for a while, but have been waiting for rings forever it seems! I have big future plans for this rifle but for now, I just want to get out and start shooting it! So far it’s pretty much stock. Here’s what I’ve done to it so far:
Shimmed the action away from the Hogue stock a bit
Threaded the bolt, and added an oversized bolt handle
Caldwell bipod
Weaver one piece base (temporary)
TPS Steel rings (lapped)
Vortex Viper PST FFP 6-24X50 scope

I’m shooting Grafs 168gr HPBT with 42.0 grains of Varget for now.

I just finished breaking the barrel in, then started sighting it in. I got these groups until I ran out of ammo.

Cant wait to get a new chassis system, but in the mean time, I’ll keep on playing with it as it is. Luckily I have plenty of reloading components saved up for it!

You might want to bump that charge up a bit hotter. Most of the 168-173gr loads I've found people having success with are at or over 44gr of varget.

Nice rifle! ... don't let them groups get ya down! ... I'm sure ya'll get 'er dialed in ... and when ya do, it'll be all that much more satisfying!

How did the ring lapping go? I tried it out for the first time with a wheeler kit, just wondering how it went for you. Nice looking rig! I still have yet to break in my new .308, hope to soon!

Yeah I'm not letting them groups get me down. Sub MOA from the first time I shot the rifle for groups with my first load, using the starting powder weights... I'm fine with that. Like I said, next up is the ladder test. I'll find out what it likes then.

I also have some different weight bullets too. I'll try those after I figure out these bullets.

Ring lapping went good. I only got about 50% of the finish removed. I still have a TPS steel base on order, so I didn't want to go hog wild lapping yet.

This is gonna sound bad, but I got A half inch group at 100 yds 5 shots with 150 gr Federal Soft point. So that's what I took to Deer Camp. Didn't let me down. I tried the Remington Sierra Match Kings but just didn't do the trick. But I do want to shave down the end of my Hogue stock to help get an actual free float. Sweet lookin rig though. I am very jealous of that scope.
