My New M1 Carbine!...... Sorta

Postby Yankee John on Tue May 14, 2013 6:34 pm

Thanks to Phil from the forum, I was able to trade some ammo for a Ruger 10/22 rifle a couple weeks back.

I put it in a replica M1 carbine stock set. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. The stock set/sling/oiler originally came from Sarco, and the rest (Tech 200 sights, uncut handguard, magazine extensions) came from E. Arthur Brown in Alexandria. Replica case came from Numrich.

It went together quickly, except I couldn't stand the original finish. I stripped it and redid it with BLO (I still have a few coats to put on it).

I love the way it handles and can't wait to get it out to the range and run it!

Looks very good! Great job! One question....how/what does that replica box mag work with the Ruger rotary mag? Is it a mag made to fit the Ruger or is it some kind of cosmetic cover?

The dummy mag extensions are for cosmetics only- It is made specifically to fit the standard Ruger mag. I simply hot glued it to the bottom of of my stock BX-1 10rd magazine. That way, I can remove it from the mag- As hot glue is not as permanent as epoxy or contact glue.

The extension cost almost as much as the 10rd magazine did, But was necessary to complete the M1 look that I was after.

Wow, John!! I am just blown away by the transformation. I'll have to show my brother the fate of his old closet queen. I have a soft spot for the old carbines. Carried a sawed off M2 for a truck gun in Nam. My dream would be yours in .357/.38 to complement my lever '92. Well done.
