It's interesting to see people try to defend this law.

It's interesting to see people try to defend those who knowingly accept the potential risks for theft in Texas. Pretty simple, don't steal and you will not get shot.

She didn't steal. She escorted him for the night.
To the two forum members who have used lines from my posts as their signatures, can't you quote Jesse Ventura or some other great Minnesotan instead of stealing mine? - LePetomane

Neither. As studies have shown time and time again, the severity of the punishment changes crime rates surprisingly little.

Which is why Texas ranks about 15th in the nation for violent crime, despite the rules you mentioned. And despite executing more people than any other five states combined. It simply doesn't make any difference.

Not disputing this. Frankly I'm amazed this passed muster, even under Texas' SD laws. Generally, and I'm not 100% sure how it works up here, self defense shoots go to a grand jury first for indictment, where all the evidence for self defense is heard. The fact this made it to trial means there was enough evidence to convict in the first place.

Relatively low crime rate and highest incarceration rate too. Houston area and drug cartels have a lot to do with the violence in Texas, which I take as all the more reason to pack.
