I would be hesitant about doing an all grain too early. Not that it's bad or anything, but it's a bit more complicated. If you are just learning start by doing a standard extract, maybe with a specialty grain. I would recommend one or two extracts to get a basic feel for the game and a basic understanding of what's going on, then go for the all grain experience.

Also, there is no right way to make beer. There are some methods that tend to make better beer than others, but if the end result is drinkable you made it right no matter your method.

Fixed it for ya :) Will you be joining us on Sunday?

We have a tenative start time of 12 noon on sunday for the All grain batch, and meltedeyes is right, it is better to start with the kit style brewing to get the hang of it, but it's interesting to see what s involved in all-grain, as it more closely resembles how it's done in much larger scale facilities. I personally have not gone to the all grain because I have always been happy with the outcome of my brews! :D (that and I'm effin' lazy)

Thanks! I might be able to make it, but I'm not currently sure. My girlfriend is working a fashion/runway show that weekend and I'm not sure what all is happening. The last time she worked a runway show we didn't get home until almost 6 in the morning.

I'm going to petition for release for a couple hours Sunday, no promises, though. Either that, or I'm going to brew, too, Sunday... hmm.

The gun show is Saturday AND Sunday.

I'll be there (Strad's, I mean) with snacks of some sort. Since I only live a couple miles away, and since I might accidentally consume a couple beers, I may just walk over there...unarmed!!! Perhaps I'll carry some green smoke grenades in case I need you guys to lay down covering fire as I enter Strad's 'hood.

:rotf: :rotf:

One day left.... Plenty of room!

If you are worried about the neighborhood, give a call when you are a couple of miles out, and I'll send Pat Cannon jogging around the block with a sign that says "Obama is a big stupid doodie head!!" that ought to draw their fire long enough for you to make it through the front door.

Besides, this will probably be the most well armed brew meeting in town :D

Yes it was. Thanks, Strad, for your hospitality. Though I am having a tough time now adjusting back to drinking the cheap crap I bought at the liquor store. Oh well.

Wish I could'a been there, but instead I was home roasting pork chops for my girls.

Glad you guys had a good time. You can hardly go wrong with good beer and better company!

If I could have been there, I was going to bring one of my niftier toys - a digital, hand-held refractometer. Makes spindling a °B seem rather primitive ;)
