(mine was just something I found in surplus not the pontiac one pictured)
The slide tongue I mounted to the wall with an offset bracket, the buckle to the back of the hard wood frame button side facing to the back (obviously). (not the bracket I used but you get the idea)
Aligning it to be just right was a pain. I measure the buckle and tongue together (with bracket attached) and mounted the bracket/tongue to the wall first. I put 3M exterior double sided mounting tape on the back of the buckle and closed the mirror making sure the tape did not touch the wood frame just yet. I used a rubber band to keep tension on the buckle to pull it constantly to the left while the mirror was closed. I then pressed the buckle to the frame so the double sided tape would adhere to the frame. I let the tape cure a bit overnight and tested it, and it was perfect, the buckle clicks into place just as you put a little extra tension on the left when you close the mirror. Zero movement once it's closed. I then took the mirror down (again) marked the buckle location and permanently mounted the buckle to the frame.
I was going to use a CompX Stealthlock, but they are expensive and don't offer a lot more than battery failure when you need your gun
Thanks. Yeah I don't consider this "secure" in any way. It's a wooden mirror frame. Even the full tactical walls shells with built in locking mirrors I just would not consider secure for thieves, etc. It would take seconds to break into either just by pulling off the frames/mirrors from the brackets with a screwdriver or prybar. It's discreet and obscured at best, but I live alone and consider it a luxury for my bachelor pad.
How secure or not is likely going to rely on how undisturbed the area around it remains. If it's obvious there's more to it than "a closet mirror" then that will invite investigation. Might want a dark rug in that end of the closet, so the carpet doesn't reveal you walking up close to it.
It's a hardwood floor and I feel the same. Don't think you can tell about walk ups to the mirror as the closet itself is used daily and the mechanism does not require the mirror to be touched (no prints).
Ha! Well I tried to be as anonymous as possible Well if you go to the youtube video itself, it has the full deal on how I built it and where to get the lighting, rails, etc.
