Awkward purchasing question

To make things very clear right off the bat, I have a MN permit to purchase and am not a criminal.

That being said...

With the government what it is today and my (most likely) irrational fears, I would like to purchase an AR but not have any paperwork involved. I know paperwork isn't required to buy face to face, but what if I wanted to buy a new AR and not have the potential to be on some government list? I wouldn't mind buying used either, but I would feel really awkward telling the seller that I don't want to have a bill of sale or my name anywhere.

While it's not illegal to transfer if you have a permit ( mn 609.66 and mn 624.713). I for one would never transfer without paperwork for my own protection.

Go buy a gun from an FFL if you want a new one...plenty of boats yet to capsize this year. It'd be a shame if you were out rowing with your AR when it happened.

You have a MN permit to purchase? Well then, you are ALREADY on "the list" whether you buy an AR or not. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your PTP makes you a "potential" gun owner, and the NSA already knows you're on this gun forum and has your IP address.

If the government wants to put me on a list for asking how to legally purchase a gun they can go ahead. I have nothing to hide and am not asking how to do anything illegal. I just feel awkward about bringing it up to a stranger.

Since I'm totally unsure on this technicality, I'm asking FWIW, but don't you have to fill out a 4473 if you buy and AR-15 (or any other??) receiver, which is what has the serial number on it and is therefore legally "a gun"??

I am OK with, and actually supportive of the government checking out things like this thread. If in the very unlikely chance I get a call or visit, they are more than welcomed to search anything they want. I only MIGHT purchase an AR. I already own a 12 gauge and a .270 deer rifle.

What I do have a problem with is them knowing that I absolutely DID purchase a gun that they might try to take away.

A 80% does not have a serial number and is not considered a gun. You finish it at home and put an upper on it and then you have a AR. You can not take it out of your state or sell it unless you register it with the ATF and get a serial number for it.

It's too late. Just for asking that question.....Right now the ATF, FBI and your local SWAT team are having a paper/rock/scissors "Battle Royalle" to decide who gets to breach your door first.

Alright I kid, I kid........Yes it is illegal for someone else to purchase a firearm for you, that's what is known as a "straw purchase". Like others have said you're already on the list.
