I'm afraid you've lost me here. How is charging all people the same amount of money to receive the same product or service discrimination? It seems to me that if you are charged less for something that I have to pay more for, it would be discrimination against me.

The "I can't afford anything" content of her posts in this thread does ring a bit hollow, especially when you take into account the fact that she recently started a thread about the new rifle + reloading setup she wants to get for a hunt in Alaska:

http://www.mnguntalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=46248&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

And also has a several hundred dollar item up for sale in the classifieds:

http://www.mnguntalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=47021&p=491561#p491561

The sale of that .22 AK replica, if she gets what she's asking (or close to it) would cover the cost of a class, the ammo for the class, and the permit application, probably with a bit left over.

She's facing the uncertainty of major surgery on a fixed income, I for one would not doubt her need. I've been rich and I've been poor, being poor sucks :)

I should call social services Monday and see if they have a program to get reduced rate processing fee at the sheriff's office. :D

A lesson I learned from a very young age was if you want something, you work and save for it. I paid for the nice BMX bike that I wanted, a T/C Hawken muzzleloader kit, and both of the cars I had in high school. I'm not saying that the OP does not understand this concept, but one has to look at one's priorities and decide where you want your money to go. If I want to buy something, I either save up or sell something to pay for it.

Actually I think this is a great idea. If no such discount is available, try to get a reasoned explanation of why not. But please record the conversation for us.

I'm not suggesting that surgery isn't a hardship or that being poor is in any way pleasant. I understand all about being poor, and I've never been rich. As Inspiribomb said, it's all about what your priorities are. If someone wants to help her out by giving her a discount on the class, the permit, and/or the ammo, great, that's really nice of them, but it doesn't seem like actual need to me when the sale of one item that she's already listed for sale would cover all 3 easily.

Are you buying? Been listed for 3 weeks and I will not drop the price and give it away.

I assume that's directed at me, since I called you out on it. As much as it looks like a fun toy, my income is pretty limited, so toys are not something I can afford right now. I wish you all the luck in the world with the sale, though. Have you tried putting an ad somewhere where it'd get a bit more exposure than a local MN forum, like gunbroker.com? Could be worth a try, especially since being far from the cities might be somewhat limiting in terms of face to face transactions.

I wouldn't say that, but things kind of drifted off the original topic.

Some don't know the difference between want and need Do you really need a permit to carry I don't have one but plan on getting one but I can afford to get it I will just skip a few cost for the month I choose to pay for the class. I haven't bought a gun in years because of my limited income and other expenses. I am in a hardship right now it is dark when I get home from work and I need to get firewood { not for this year for next year I plan ahead} If any one has any seasoned only oak firewood willing to deliver and stack for free. I am being sarcastic about the wood I know i can get it my self but it would be easier and cheaper if someone else would do it for me. Any one want to work for free?

Kind of a moot point right now, my budget just took a massive hit yesterday. Waiting on the kids insurance company right now. He ran a stop sign and I t-boned him at 40mph. Pretty much a giant ball of pain right now. He is at fault but finding a replacement car is not going to be easy or cheap.

Ouch, that sucks about your car, but at least it's provably not your fault, so it shouldn't be too tough to get the insurance companies involved to see it your way and take care of you, and of course any medical bills you've incurred as a result of the accident.

You t-boned him?- say what? Life can really suck sometimes. Get used to it. There is no such thing as free lunch. We all go through trials, and if we posted them all here, this site might crash. Suck it up, wait for the cash and quit whining. Simple.
