opinions on back/sob holster

What are the general opinions on SOB holsters (for concealed carry)? Good? Bad? Comfortable? Uncomfortable? Potentially harmful to your back? Good place on your body to conceal? Not positioned to draw quickly enough? Retention issues?

Take a look at the hybrid options out there. Aliengear, Galco, desantis, etc. It's not sob, but most have a lot of adjustment available for you to find what works for you.

IMHO
not good for driving/sitting
Potential (in winter especially) to do bodily harm if you slip and fall

tried it didn't like it

The winter>ice>falling concept alone makes me stay away from SOB.

However, if you wanted, Side Guard Holsters can make you anything you want. I cant find the picture, but he made a bad ass custom dual 6 o'clock holster. So, yeah, ANYTHING.

+1
I tried it for about a month and when thinking about a slip and fall decided it was not the way to go. I have enough spine problems. And as I get older and my formerly cat-like reflexes are more and more sloth-like.

Plus when your jacket gets hung up on the gun, everybody can see it except you.

I had a sob a while back, Desantis I think, I usual wore it about 5 o'clock. Brought the suck in the 6 o'clock position.

opinions on back/sob holster

Postby PhilaBOR on Fri Dec 06, 2013 10:03 am

I carried at 5 o'clock for maybe a year. Really uncomfortable while sitting, and there's the whole fall and wreck your spine thing. I changed to 3:00 and like it much better. I can sit through a whole movie now, could conceivably draw in the car, and it's probably a bit faster draw in any case.

It bulges a bit more but not much with a good cover garment, and I've never had anyone call me on it.

Try moving it back a little more to 3:30 - if you match the cant to your leg angle, you can get to where you don't even notice the gun unless you're laying on it.

I do this. In the winter I will carry my Shield in a Galco SOB holster. It sits really nicely if you wear it so that the two loops on the holster straddle the 4 o'clock loop on your jeans.
