Identification help?

Postby Stradawhovious on Wed Oct 22, 2008 10:55 pm

I was doing a bit of spring cleaning this evening and ran across some interesting ammo. Could anyone help me identify these cartridges? Obviously German, but I'm unaware of the proper name, and firearm they belong to. Click on pics for larger image.

pretty sure this is it

The Nazi 8x56Rmm

If you scroll down a bit it shows a casing with similar (identical) markings.

eh, I recognized the bird on the bottom quarter as a Nazi marking, so went to Wikipedia and looked for "Nazi rifle cartridge" and after changing the search term a couple times I got what I needed.

8x56Rmm Mannlicher Schoenauer - actually a nice caliber.... And a decent little rifle.

The clip looks to be out of a Hungarian Steyr model 95, caliber is probably 8x56R Mannlicher ( not 8x56 Mannlicher-Schoenauer, which is a rimless sporting cartridge! ). The Nazis used plenty of these rifles in Hungary and Bulgaria for rear echelon troops.

Yep, really cool straight-pull bolt. I've got one and it's really fun short rifle to shoot.

As I recall, the clip has the stamp on it as well. At least the ones that I got did. If one were to want a little piece of history, a clip with five rounds in it might be the best way to go. They are pretty available at gun shows.

The clip that I received does not have the eagle/swastika stamp, but it does have something.

And yeah, I think I picked these up at a gun show for about a buck a round (probably less, can't remember)

There should be no NAZI memorabilia. That era is history...

We must always remember the past, in this case, for no other reason than to make sure it is never repeated.

I wouldn't call it memorabilia, I'd call it proof that the holocaust did happen. When people quit remembering or bury that horrid past is when history will repeat it's self.
