I think if you repeat that a few times...you will properly piss off some frump-ass Anti's.

How about offering a highly advanced "permit to carry" class to those citizens who are willing and able to undergo and pass intense advanced training.
Allow them a permit to carry anywhere at anytime.
Encourage teachers and school administrators to participate.

I want to bump with this phrase....The anti's intend to AVOID RATIONAL DISCUSSION OF THE ISSUES INVOLVED....The accuracy of this statement will trip them up just a bit in an argument:

The real reason a "background check" will not work is simply statistics. You can do a background check on someone's credit and it will tell you how many monthly payment he makes on time and how many he misses. So if you were going to extend a loan, you can simply calculate the risk from several years of recent data.

But violent people do not get second chances. If you kill someone, and are caught and convicted, then you would not pass the background check. But then you would be in prison, not shopping for firearms. So almost all murderers are going to be first offenders. There is only one "history". It's not like a credit history. So we really cannot prevent killings by background checks on firearms. It really doesn't matter what you think of the Second amendment. It's just not a statistical possibility. It's just so basic, and we are used to "background checks" because it's something we can all do with our computers. But it's really ridiculous. You need a bunch of data in order to make a prediction by looking at past behavior. Almost everyone running loose will pass a background check.

Except we let these people out of prison and give them another chance to reoffend. Background checks are supposed to be a solution to the problem of allowing dangerous and violent people to knowingly exist with the rest of us.

If a person is too dangerous to the community to allow to purchase a firearm, how about we just keep them in a cage. If we didn't let violent criminals out into the population, we wouldn't need background checks.

We need to solve the problem at the problem. Guns are not the problem, bad people are the problem. Anyone who can't understand this extremely simple concept is an idiot and shouldn't be making decisions any more difficult than how to tie their shoes.

The Bible says "an eye for an eye", we need to bring back capital punishment for murderers, terrorists, and other cases where people were killed.

Now I know this is severe and many people will bitch about it, but the same people bitch about the cost of keeping these people in a cage or releasing them back on society.

Let the discussion on Capital Punishment start:

WHY, if a policeman gets shot, does the criminal very seldom survive the arrest procedure? Because the police do not trust our legal system to work properly, and they fear the person will be let go on a technicality ? (Edited, because I forgot the "?" mark, and it sent the un-intended message.))

Do you have any solid proof of this? It runs counter to everything I know of such incidents. I would really be interested in anything other than anecdotal evidence.

I'm a supporter of capital punishment. Some people, through their actions, have caused so much pain to those around them that they have simply lost the right to live.

I also believe that the notion of rehabilitation, other than for juveniles, is a Sesame Street style fantasy. Prison should be punishment. Criminals should be forced to suffer for their crimes. The fact that we have the highest population of people locked in prison of any first world country, and still knowingly let violent criminals loose on the streets is evidence we are doing it wrong.

I'd like to hear of such cases.
The most notorious local cop killer, whose name I've forgotten, shot and killed 2 St Paul Police Officers and a police dog: Ron Ryan, Jr, Tim Jones, and Jones's canine partner Lazer, within hours of each other on 26 Aug 1994. He was convicted and is(was?) serving a life sentence.

The jones family are good people I am friends with the whole family although they received a good amount of money after tims death it can never replace the father they. Had his daughter chelsi ended up getting ms hockey back in 05 and playing for the u of m and his son Matt is now a police officer following in his dad's footsteps I'm just writing this to give you an idea of the people who were effected by this tradgedy
