As most everyone knows, I love to shoot my single-shot Target Rifles chambered in 50BMG.
I have well over 1000 rounds of loaded surplus available, some cost $0.79 per round, the most expensive were $1.93 per round.
I reload the 50BMG, along with about 40+ other cartridges, and buy bulk powders when available.
I've bought Virgin H5010 for $39.00/ 8 pounds, H50BMG for $143.00/8 pounds, Reloder50 for $148.00 per 8 pounds, and V.V. 20N29 for $168/00 per 8 pounds. I've bought in up to 300 pound quantities when doing a group buy for other shooters. (my 20N29 only cost me $125/jug when purchased from a retired shooter). I sure wish I had purchased more components in past years, like my AP700's for $0.23 each, or M33 Ball for $0.18 each.
Now Amax can be had for $1.48 each if bought in quantity. Same for 808 grain brass solids $1.60 each. Both Amax and Solids NOW list on web pages for $2.25 to $3.00 each with shipping included. I bought 10K of 50BMG primers years ago for $95/500, now days they cost a bit more.
This year I am experimenting with 808 grain brass solids coated with Titanium Disulfide, which is more slippery than Moly without the bad side effects of Moly. I intend to push these at around 2950 FPS utilizing a very healthy charge of 20N29, CCI#35 primer, and special match-prepped brass fitted to a 0.554" diameter necked chamber in my 35" Fedderson 5R barrel.
Yes it was expensive getting setup in this sport, but I planned for it in advance.
And it is much cheaper than the offroad racing team that I sponsored. KTM200XC/W, KTM250XC/We, KTM530EXC, and spares, including traveling the National Enduro Circuit.
