Been a tough winter with the lack of snow. The three guys I hunt with usually take about 75 a year but it's been slow

I've been hunting these predators instead

converted 4 yotes to inanimate objects........
that makes 18 since New Years -
send me a PM if you have yotes in need of converson..............

That's not bad! You were in the area of my hunting grounds. I have a couple Management area complexes I could point you to that I see a more than normal amount of yotes, in that general area. I am just going to trap them off our properties once the thaw comes (we've been dealing with higher than normal numbers this fall).

As most people don't understand that yote hunting is a numbers game, whats your guesstimate of number of sets to achieve 18?

It all depends on if one is going to hunt them or educate them..........it is indeed all numbers.
I would say roughly on average in MN 3 maybe 4 - 15-20 minute sets per coyote...that is after I have located them
snow or no snow doesn't matter.........
It is amazing that in NDak I have watched them come trotting in from over a mile-so you sit longer in below zero weather
While on the other hand in AZ I have seen them come charging in within 3-4 minutes-so you are running and gunning in 100 degree weather
All of it depends on weather, bar. pressure, wind, humidity, etc, etc..............and if you are indeed hunting them!

I'm using an electronic caller made by Icotec. I know you're looking for a mouth call but these are decent for the money. It's like Foxpro but cheaper.

I am not opposed to the icotec. How does it compare to the FoxPro?? What is the quality like???

When there is only desert and not much to eat they come in a LOT sooner. HOWEVER they make it a little tougher by being so dang small.

Indeed they may be slightly smaller....
however, when mouth calling in MN and sounding like an injured animal
at least you don't have these critters sneaking up behind you and hunting you for dinner......

Dude, Nice cat. About two years ago I heard some noise on the back deck at my Idaho place. I didn't think anything of it. When I awoke there was a pretty big cat looking at me through the window. No breakfast on the deck that day.

It's a down year here. I only have 13 so far since November. Normally i'm in the 30-40 range. Went out two weeks ago during full moon when we had snow. And saw more deer than I did yotes that night. Lack of snow during full moon has really made it slow here. But that's the only time I end up going out.

Depends on where in MN. Was stalked by one north of Mora a few years ago. Eerie feeling being the stalky instead of the stalker.

I've used a buddies foxpro before this and I think the foxpro has better sounds but this one is decent. I've only used it twice and both days were super windy so I haven't called one in with it and I hate to give a review until I get a good day and see if it actually calls them in as good as a foxpro or not. So a little more time and I can answer that...maybe next weekend?

Can you hunt predators at night in Mn? Saw a show they were using night scopes, In Colorado I think-- looked like fun. One scope let you record the action to.

Yes on hunt, no on night scope in MN. In fact it's against the law to have any night vision equipment in any vehicle with any firearm

Most of my coyote hunting is done at night with either a shotgun, pistol, or PCC.
MN hunting regs do not allow "artificial light" which includes night scopes.

A couple of reasons I like setting up near dead boxes for the hog barns is that they are usually lit pretty well. The coyotes don't seem to be as spooky there either as it is a regular food source with plenty of human sent around.
I have a cheap pocket tape recorder that I taped some baby pigs squealing. I put it in the dead box, walk away and wait. Have actually had pretty good success with that set up. If you can time it to just after the farmer has moved newly weaned pigs in, that works even better!

Being a city boy, I gotta ask: What's a dead box?
