They are actively tryin gto get people to call / write in and get him to veto the bill.

they did deliver a petition with 1300 signatures - which is less than half what we have collected.

Any idea what their main objection is? Suppressors? The emergency powers part? Capitol notification? Or just general butt-hurt?

All of their communication to their supporters has been around suppressors.

It's only the local group (Protect MN) that is driving this. The national groups (everytown, moms demand action, etc) took no position on these bills.

I think they just automatically oppose anything we propose. Some year we should propose legalizing cap and ball revolvers with barrels longer than 4" (I know they are already legal) just to see what reaction we get.

Protect MN is a joke. They ban anyone pro gun on their facebook page. They don't want a discussion, they are like a 5 year old stomping his foot wanting things his way.

I find your comparison of PM to a 5 year old offensive.
My 5 year old granddaughter displays more maturity than they do.

Mary can use the brat next door to me for the comparison. He screams too.

The bill was sent to Gov. Dayton yesterday evening, so he has until Saturday at midnight to make a decision. We need to keep the pressure up!

Please call 651-201-3400 and let Gov Dayton know you support SF 878, and ask that he signs it!!!

Guys and Gals - it's really important to contact the Governor often.

It's all a numbers game at this point. When you call and leave a voicemail, an intern(probably unpaid) records SF878 'for' - same for e-mails. They don't care about you're 5 minute rant about how suppressors are legal in 39 states and not causing any issues or that the Gov has an unfounded fear. They are just converting your feedback into data that is easily digestible.

The Gov will then(possibly) look at that data and determine how big of a hit he will take signing or vetoing the bill. If the numbers show 99% of the calls/emails are for the bill that sends a decisive message. Anything less than 99% we aren't calling and/or e-mailing enough.

GOCRA and MNGOPAC don't send out calls to action very often - when they do we need to jump in with both feet. Luckily both the NRA and NSSF are supporting these efforts as well. It would be a shame if we walk away saying 'well, maybe next year' when we are so close.

I just leave voicemails urging the governor to support SF 878. Any benefit in leaving a phone number?

Voicemail left and sent an email:

I noticed you haven't signed SF878. I am primarily a DFL voter and I am noticing that DFLers (and democrats across the country) are getting voted out because they are for totally useless gun control laws.

Please sign SF878 because it contains lots of other good public safety things in addition to totally benign gun matters.

Best,

XXXX X XXXXXXX (probably the only DFLer in Scott County)

EDIT: GOCRA just reported that Dayton will sign the bill. I'm sure it was because of my letter :D

Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee

Kevin --

YOU DID IT!

Governor Mark Dayton just informed the legislature that he will sign SF878 - the Omnibus Public Safety Bill into law.

Your efforts as stalwart advocates for the Second Amendment made this happen!

dayton_signed.png

What does this mean for gun owners?

Later this year, as the laws take effect, the following provisions will be in effect:
The Governor will no longer have the authority to seize your firearms during a 'state of emergency'
Ownership and use of suppressors will be legal for all lawful purposes
Permit to Carry holders will no longer need to provide notification to the Commissioner of Public Safety to carry at the MN State Capitol complex
The process for the Commissioner of Public Safety to determine reciprocity for permit holders with other states will be simplified
Minnesota law will be clarified as to the purchase of long guns in other states
This is a great victory for Minnesota's gun owners - and YOU MADE THIS HAPPEN!

Our thanks also to our partners in driving these issues with the legislature this year:
The Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance (GOCRA), with their strong history of more than 25 years of working to protect and expand the rights of Minnesota's law-abiding gun owners.
The National Rifle Association (NRA)

If you have a few minutes today, please send a note of thanks to Governor Dayton for signing the bill, and Representative Tony Cornish for shepherding these gun rights bills through the legislature this year.

Congratulations again for helping drive this victory!

Yours in Liberty,
