NRA taking credit for the hard work of other organizations. Again.

Call me bad if you want, but I don't belong to the NRA. Things like the above are one of the reasons.

I support the local non-partisan grassroots groups GOCRA and MN Gun PAC.

GOCRA does an excellent job at making gun owners look like "normal everyday people", because we are. NRA, in my opinion, seems to fuel the stereotype of "gun nuts."

I shall put on my flame retardant suit for the replies....... or, try to convince me to join the NRA.......

The NRA is a political lobbyist group. The important thing to remember is that they will serve their own interests first.
Anything they can do to generate support and more funding, they will do it to keep the train going. Them taking credit will help them retain or gain credibility.

You are not alone.

I saw a comment (and now I can't find it) but I think it was maybe Rob or Andrew saying that the NRA was VERY helpful in getting Bakk to push the gun bills through on the Senate side. That said the NRA sure claimed all the credit and shame on them for that. All in all I think we are better off with the NRA than without them so I support them.

No. The NRA was heavily involved in making this happen this year - just like they were in 2013. They're just less visible.

I give them an enormous amount of credit for these bills - and the same for GOCRA.

That was Rob. I agree with his opinion on this.

First time I joined the NRA, I was bombarded by volumes of junk email and dinner-time telephone calls. Faded away after about 2 years after I quit.

Second time I joined the NRA...same story, but with he addition of relentless SPAM in my email inbox.

I joined a third time recently when everyone said..."no, no...you can just check the box that says, NO SPAM, or SNAIL MAIL, they won't send you anything". Turned out to be a lie...huge volume of spam email. Still getting junk snai mail. They aren't calling me at home because I gave them my work number when I signed up. The SPAM email doesn't bother me because I gave them a dead email address called "NRAnospam" that's valid, but not active.

******** BS. Now, I occasionally donate to the ILA anonymously but spend most of those donation dollars on GOCRA.

I'm sure that they participated. The predictable aspect is that they didn't give GOCRA any credit.

It's politics. If you look at communications from any win, every group that had anything to do with it (and some that had nothing to do with it) will take sole credit. (most of the time)

I can tell you for certain, that none of these bills would have moved an inch in the Senate without the NRA.

A few other groups like the American Suppressor Assoc. and NSSF chimed in, but GOCRA, the NRA, and MNGOPAC did the lions share of work in strategy, mobilization, and lobbying.

Just so you know... so-called "Minnesota Gun Right" didn't do a damn thing, but I expect them to take credit in their future fundraising efforts.
