AR lowers

Postby Holland&Holland on Thu Mar 24, 2016 8:11 am

Ok, so contemplating another build. A couple of questions that I want to see what others are doing about.

Question one, where do you buy your lowers?
I have purchased lowers in the past at gun shows, on line and paid a transfer fee, and from members of this forum, but is there a local source for lowers that is a decent price?

Question two, I have always heard that a lower is a lower is a lower, but I have also heard people have issues with lowers. Lowers I have used for builds in the past have only been from Aero Precision, and DPMS for .308 platforms, but to be honest that has been more chance than anything (except for DPMS for .308 platform compatibility, that was planned). Thoughts on lowers to look at and ones to stay away from?

DK Mags has lowers at comparable prices, plus it's supporting a local business.

I have one Anderson Lower that functions, but the finish and fit isn't as nice as a standard lower. I probably wouldn't buy another one, and would just spend the extra $50 for a nicer Spikes or Aero lower.

In my opinion, it's what you want it for. If it's for range use, general hunting, or just to get an AR... I don't see any difference in buying an Anderson, a PSA blem, DPMS, Spikes, Daniel Defense, JP, BCM, Aero, NFA etc...

I have a couple Anderson's and have zero problems with them. In fact, my most accurate AR happens to be on an Anderson lower. In my opinion, it's the barrel where you need to be more picky if you're going for accuracy.

Other than cosmetics or special features (side charging, flared mag well, ambi controls) I'd go with any of them.

Anywhere else locally that has completed lowers on hand? Figured after FFL fees by buying online might as well buy one locally with tax.

I like Mega Gator lowers. Atomic Tactical usually has them for about $120. You can have them install a parts kit at reasonable cost. You could upgrade the trigger and grip too and not have to pay for parts you don"t use.

AR lowers

Postby LumberZach on Sun Mar 27, 2016 11:15 am

Southwest arms had the Anderson lowers at $42 a pop... So a few may or may not have followed me home. Buying a forged lower is all about the finish at this point. I have yet to hear of a metal lower not performing. If you want fancy billet that's another thing.

Local shops used to have them in all the time but not as many now. I'm hoping to find a few more before November.
