SiG P365

Postby INOR on Thu Feb 15, 2018 11:52 pm

Have been reading up on this new gun from SIG. Anybody seen or fired one yet? Looks very interesting. Same basic size as a g43 and a touch smaller than a shield but has 10 rd mags in double stack like a g26. But SIG designed the mag so it’s waaaay slimmer than the g26. It’s almost as slim as the g43 but holds 10+1. Too soon for me to run out and buy one. I’ll watch the reviews for a while and see how this one does. But definitely an exciting new pistol!

THIS IS A WAIT AND SEE FIREARM:

A few things- the mag design is extraordinary. The gun is slightly smaller than a Glock 43. Much smaller than a shield. It’s 10+1 as said, (and I will buy one when the problems are fixed)

There have been many public instances so far of a few major problems:
Barrel hoods have been peening/mushrooming. That’s a fitment issue and a metallurgy problem. Sig is aware of this. There are YouTube videos about this. This has been the most common and serious problem. There have been a few broken firing pins, too. And lastly, lots of complaints about failure to go into battery. They’ve had some night sight problems, too.

I’m concerned about the barrel hood and firing pins, fwiw. I was all set to try to get one (with a street price of $499, and a market soon to be flooded with aftermarket accessories), it was a no brainer. The pistol comes with night sights at that price, but some pistols were delivered with “dead” tritium. Sig has already addressed this problem by saying all new pistols will come with their top of the line X night sights. In the meantime, SIG has stopped ALL production and deliveries of the P365 until all the other issues are fixed. I’d warn everyone to stay away until the new batches are delivered and to stay away from the current generation. No word yet on when the next release will be and if they will be labeled gen 2 or not.

Thanks for sharing. Yep, makes sense to wait and see what happens. Hope they get those bugs worked out.

Waiting to see one also. Dimension wise they look similar to the SCCY2. (yeah I know they are a low end gun) But also have a 10 rd mag

Have been hearing that SIG has made some changes to address some of the issues that the first batch was having. Still in wait and see mode but pretty excited about getting a look at one sometime.

I received mine a few weeks ago from Arnzen and it has been good so far. I have about 150 rounds through it with about 50 of those being HST and haven’t had any problems yet

226 is about as solid a gun as you can buy.

I've never owned one, but have been under the impression that Sig Sauer was a quality name manufacturer. Have they outsourced the manufacture of some of their pistol lines? Are they innovating to the point where maybe they are rushing things through development without thoroughly vetting new technology or applying known technology to new platforms?

I have 2, a P226 and a P224 (basically a sub compact version of the P226). The 226 is a time tested, battle tested design so I can't speak to their newer polymer offerings but one of those was awarded the new military contract so they must have passed some level of testing protocol.

There is a P365 on Armslist for $700, if anyone is so inclined........ Seems, just a tad overpriced, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks, but I can wait. These will regularly be sub $500 guns once the initial “gotta-have-it” wears off.
