I've debated doing such with my AR-50 tank brake at an angle similar to the ports which is then severely restricted by thickness of material. Another AR-50 shooter has requested that modification to his muzzle brake, but since he hydro-dipped his entire rifle I have no desire to touch his action, barrel, or muzzle brake.

This Winter I will drill/bore and tap for 1/8-27 NPT which will allow for tuning without fear of plug restricting bore. (If I had a CNC mill with helical interpolation, I would thread mill to a shoulder to prevent insert from being installed too deep.) I will add this feature to front of each port in the brake at 90 degrees to the bore.

Any action and reaction will occur after the projectile has left the bore, except for the column of air compressed in front of projectile. This column of air is what must be "tuned" to control accuracy potential of rifle with this feature. Length of barrel, temperature of barrel/air inside, size & Number of ports, all have an effect which must be learned to affect the result.

A " tensioned barrel" would have a greater effect to the accuracy potential of these type of rifles, but I see no company providing this option. With the current length of the barrel shrouds, it would be easy to apply to rifles. A "Super-Nut" at end of barrel would provide the best consistency to any setup. Think about that for a while - it has been done to other 50BMG rifles with great success when applied properly.

More later.

Thanks for the explanation. 1st time seeing a brake like the ruger with adjustable tuning. Guy on snipers hide got his hands one one but only a few rounds down range. Will wait for more reviews before deciding. Am happy with my savage for now.

Just got a response from my email on the bullet. They were using Hornady 285 ELD-M on the video when they hit 2520 yards. But as the interview on the video showed, they were lobbing them down range. Still looks pretty good.

Put the twist rate on my ballistic program to see if any difference at 1700 yards. Same. Used all the data from my savage 338LM but just switched twist. Still debating if its worth selling my savage and getting the RPR.

What do you hope to gain by switching?

I like the design. One thing that ticks me off about the Savage is the magazine. Could put a different chassis on mine that uses a different magazine. Still to early though. Not enough real data .

Well, I sold my savage 338LM to fund the RPR 338LM. Sucks go fast when they pop up. Should have it by next Friday.

Cheapest I could find is $1549.00 (only 2 places). Highest was $1700. Mine was $1605.00. If your thinking about getting one, you will have to act fast if you find one in stock. I got on multiple notification lists as everyone was out of stock. Asked Cabelas last week if they are getting any. Not in their system when the guy checked so special order for now.

That's pretty good pricing. Maybe next year when the newness wears off a bit.

Got it today. Packaging was great. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. This rifle has allot of weight to it compared to my savage. Cant wait to clean it, set it up, and go dial it in.

RPR now in 300WM & 338LM

Postby INOR on Fri Nov 23, 2018 6:40 pm

That’s sweet! I’m a left handed long gun shooter, which is odd as I’m right handed on everything else including pistol. Thus far I don’t think Ruger makes any RPRs for lefty shooters.
