So what if he greased some palms to get a gun license? That’s not stopping a Brooklyn landlord from fighting for his right to bear arms.

The building owner is complaining that the FBI blocked his bid last year to get a carry permit from the NYPD — after he paid more than $10,000 to a fixer who was busted this week for allegedly bribing cops.

The joys of a may-issue jurisdiction.

I found it fascinating that:

  • After that permit was issued, and before they delivered it to you, they shook him down for more money
  • They knew he was a felon, and they issued him a permit anyway,
  • That he's upset that after he'd paid $12,500 in bribes to the NYPD, he still failed the NICS check.

Just goes to show - don't try to bribe the cops. Bribe the politicians.

Isn't that like calling the cops because someone cheated you on your drug deal?

It's NY, kinda more like calling the New Green deal folks and asking them to help you supe up your gas guzzling truck.

An honest NYC official does what they're bribed to.

Sounds like two separate issues.

He paid the fixer who bribed the cops and he indeed got his permit after paying the fixer a bit more.

Ironically he had a felony bribery conviction 15 years ago and he thinks the answer now is to commit bribery.

Then when he went to buy a gun he failed to think the feds would turn up his felony conviction in the NICS.

He did indeed get something for his money. He got his permit.

He failed in procuring a firearm however.

Sounds like he would have been better off talking to some of the folks he is collecting rent from in whatever sketchy neighborhood he mentions in his claims.

So NICS worked as designed and New York City managed a complete FAIL!

The probability of him being squeaky clean during the intervening 15 year is near zero. It appears that bribery is part of doing business for him.

He's from NYC.

Bribery is part of life.
