Great points, XDEd. Just to add a tiny bit to that; vote for Donald Trump in 2020, even if It makes you feel like you are betraying your pure-as-the-driven-snow Libertarian beliefs. The importance of federal judicial appointments really can’t be overstated.

Has to pass the Senate. If that happens, has to pass the White House or have enough of a supermajority to overrule a veto.

And if it comes to that there are already states that are insisting that gun transfers entirely within a state's borders have nothing to do with interstate commerce, and it will certainly go to the SCOTUS, which may find the spine to rule that the Interstate Commerce Clause doesn't give the Fed limitless authority.
