It's not AR framed, it's a Barrett 98b in 338LM.

Jim, When I went to fetch it the guy who owns Right to Bear Arms (across the river from me, in Brooklyn Park) asked for my permit when I only handed him my DL as I was filling out the 4473. I told him I didn't need one, and that's when he mentioned the ATF auditor had found a transfer where he didn't have a permit and was supposedly supposed to.

Of course I produced my carry permit and made him happy so I could leave with the Beast. ;)

I would have done the same, though I might have suggested they change their name on the way out of the store

The funny thing was my 82A1 was not one that required that back in the bad old days... when Clinton was king and Schumer said the only reason to own it was to shoot politicians....

I wouldn't waste ammo on them. They simply aren't worth that kind of cash outlay.

Especially with a .50. Now with .22 coming back down in price maybe.... Still hate to waste good ammo on rotten meat.

Not sure why the negativity on them- the military uses them.

Yes, its not a match rifle. With surplus ammo its minute of 55 gallon barrel at 1000 yards. I haven't played with it for reloading, mainly because I don't have a reliable place to shoot at over 600 yards, but I suspect I could get it into the 2 MOA range rather easily doing that. I brought it mainly as a political statement at the time. But it recoils less than any other .50 I have tried, and I've had 14 year old girls shoot it prone and get up giggling... It certainly is a better product than the armalite or any other AR 15 upper style .50 BMG guns.

I think you miss understood the comment. It was not a negative comment on the Barret, rather a dig on politicians.

I have to disagree with the statement
It certainly is a better product than the armalite or any other AR 15 upper style .50 BMG guns.
, The Armalite AR-50 is far superior in accuracy than the M82A1, right out of the box. And, while my State Arms Shorty, that has been highly modified, it will out shoot the M82. I've yet to see an M82 shoot under 1 MOA at 1000 yards, I have seen many AR-50's do so. I've shot my State Arms to .2 MOA at 1000 yards (2.438" Group, pic below), just last year. And, both of these models of rifles, are at a cost of less than 50% of the M82 (some as low as 1/3 the cost)

I have not personally fired an M82A1 I have fired my State Arms (it does have an Armalite Brake) an AR-50A1 (OldmanFCSA) and a World Record Holding (2.045" 5 Shot Group) Ferret 50, made by Spider Arms, and all of them have a very mild recoil. All 3 of them also have proven to shoot under .5 MOA .

I do understand that the M82A1 was designed for mainly military usage, it just wasn't designed for extreme accuracy. If you'd like to try my State Arms or an AR-50, I'm sure we can set it up for you, maybe, even out to 1000 yards.

Note: To be fair, these groups were not fired with military surplus ammo. They were fired with handloads designed for these specific rifles.

While technically a pistol, the SBA3 brace in the last hole puts the tip of the nose on the charging handle @ 12-3/4" LOP and shoulders like a proper stock. My new 9mm build using Endomags and also did a matching 22 LR upper. Had the combo to the range to dial in the sights and both ran like a clock, accurate to boot. My favorite builds thus far.

Looks good. Like the 22 upper. What mags are you using with the 22? I already have a 15-22 that shoots great but have considered a 22LR upper.

I have the Boonie Packer Better-Mag adapter which allows the use of the much dependable and easy to load S&W 15-22 mags. Also provides positive last round bolt hold open. I also have a 16" 22LR dedicated upper and switch the bolt and mag adapter between them.

Took the family to the indoor range today and ran another couple hundred through each upper without a hiccup. Grandson loves the 22, said more fun than the 22/45 pistol, which says something ha.

Very cool. A dedicated .22 build is on the list.

The gab to pic ratio here is pretty pathetic for a photo thread.

Sulzer lower uses 6.8 SPC pmags. 12.5 ARP barrel w/AGB and A5 extension. Steel gray cerakote matches better in real light. Probably go with an ACOG after it gets dialed in. Just finished so range check next week.
