S&W SW1911

I own a S&W SW1911 and I thought about getting a threaded barrel for it. However, sw1911 uses an external extractor. Anyone here know if a standard 1911 barrel will fit?

I have the full size and sw1911-sc which is a commander size.

Interesting question. I never compared it to another 1911 but never noticed any differences either.

Shouldn't be an issue.

Only two issues would be:
1) Ramped or non-Ramped
2) Link size-for timing lockup

Don’t 1911 barrels typically need fitting? Or are there aftermarket drop ins?

Took a quick look, neither of the barrels had relief for the extractor so they looked the same.

Tons of aftermarket drop-ins are available..........
that's not to say that many don't need fitting -
meaning that for example -
links come in a variety of sizes (center to center dimensions) and that can affect barrel timing and lockup.......
and you don't always get a link and pin when you order a drop-in barrel.......

Drop in barrel is not likely to give the best accuracy or last for 10s of thousands of rounds but may very well work out of the box. At least that is what I read on the internet

I’d like to send my S&W e-series to a good 1911 gunsmith for a Kart barrel. I think it has a drop in barrel/bushing from the factory as it has “combat accuracy”...

If you are looking for 1" groups at 25 yd accuracy you would have a custom 1911 or high end 1911....
otherwise for average mass produced, out of the box 1911's -
a Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Clark, etc. drop-in 1911 Match Grade barrels will be more accurate than most shooters can shoot for thousands of rounds..........
