Michigan shooter's "Souped-up" handgun

Postby Lumpy on Thu Dec 02, 2021 9:23 pm

My brother and I agree to politely disagree on firearms. I did however correct the impression he'd had that the Sig Sauer that the Michigan shooter used was a "military" handgun that was somehow deadlier than your run-of-the-mill 9mm and "designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible".

To his credit, he admitted it was not the Sig Sauer M18 he'd thought.

"They made it for him special. It's an .88 Magnum. It shoots through schools".

Remember the Tec-9?

A 9mm semi-auto, remarkable only in its excess weight, poor ergonomics, and lousy reliability.

Still, it was for a while, the antis' poster boy for "evil assault weapon":

Late 90's, a buddy bought one that went full auto out of the box. I think his still trying to figure out how to send it back for repairs.

Michigan shooter's "Souped-up" handgun

I realize that this post is about the absurdity of non-gunowners and the way they look at these firearms. Maybe if all guns were that Tiffany blue finish and had decorative scrolling they’d be less dangerous?

Beyond all that, I’m waiting to learn more about this dad and mom. Are they going to be charged? Have any parents been charged in any case like this yet or is this potentially the first? Was this gun purchase made on Black Friday his first gun purchase or was he already a gun owner? If he was a first time gun owner, was he naive to proper gun storage and security like most new gun owners? If he was already a gun owner, did he purchase the gun for himself or was it intended for his kid? And how is it that this kid had direct access to it without his parent’s knowledge?

The anti- gun left has figured out how to leverage a tragedy by going after the parents. We may very well find out that they were bad people, but in the past, there didn't seem to be any heat directed at the parents, this could be a new tack. Will be interesting to see it play out. It is clear that the kid was at least a discipline problem....that suggests a history of mental illness.

Michigan shooter's "Souped-up" handgun

Yikes. Read some more details on the case. Parents bought the gun for him calling it his Christmas present. The handgun was unsecured in a drawer at home where he had direct access to it. He got busted searching for ammunition at school. And then for having drawings depicting or alluding to murder saying something like “the thoughts won’t stop. Help me” with bullets and blood. That picture got his parents called immediately to school and he was pulled from class with his backpack. Unknown to them that he had the gun in his backpack during the counseling conference with the principal and parents. The school said, based on the drawings, he had to see a counselor within 48 hours. Parents refused to remove him from school so he returned to class and started his mass shooting shortly thereafter. When parents caught wind there was a school shooter they looked for the gun and found it missing. Meanwhile mom is texting her son telling him not to do it. Dad calls authorities and says gun is missing and thinks his son is the shooter. This **** is crazy.

And now a manhunt underway for the parents who have apparently gone incommunicado with their attorney.

I think they keep it in the Coach's office. :P (a little levity in an otherwise terrible episode all around).
