Powder? Primers? Anyone? Anywhere?

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

Supposedly, Win has no WSR production planned till summer! And, they did ramp up production to meet ammo orders......but as most companies will say....they re in AMMO biz, not the component biz. The components are a byproduct of the biz. We have seen Federal lay off production workers, and we have insiders saying the warehouse is full. And, Federal has primers to sell primed brass.

Be patient.

ET-

I'm trying to be patient. The problem is that I have not been hoarding. I'm only buying what I need to shoot for the next month or two.

Now I need bullets for the next couple of months (~3000) and they are hard to find. I'm a busy guy with a family, job, and a life. So, if/when Gunstop gets in a delivery of bullets, I may not be able to get over there for a couple of days. The way things are going that's too late.

I know, it's nobody's problem but my own. That doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

THey are in the business of making money, and none of them are in the hands of shooters or shooter families anymore. Its all corporate, and you have some Wall street jack ass (and they are all jack ass's as far as I have met) who looks and says "hmmmm 3 shifts, selling all we can, uncertain future, well hell, just jack the price up by 150% and see what happens?" That 150% is all profit, the costs if anything have gone down, and yet they see no reason to increase production. There are no shooters left in the business, its all take over specialists, and no one is deciding to up their market share.

Seems to me that good lead bullets can be had from Missouria Bulets and again right to you door
http://www.missouribullet.com/index.php
Seems to me that Black Bullets International poly/moly coated bullets are delivered right to door, too !

Holy cow what more do you want? Now quit whining about the bullets!

About the most desired bullets out there are 22cal 55gr FMJ or some 150gr 30 cal FMJ.

A person can get Speer 22 cal 62gr FMJ at a price of course!

And, well powder can be had just not what some people desire....most VV powders, good 223 powders such as TAC can be had and most Accurate powders can be had.

Primers well people sometimes need think ahead!

I was in Pony Express Reloaders today and they said primers have been back ordered six months to a full year depending on which supplier. They still have primers, but none for sale they are saving them to load.

What time are you going, I need to clean them out before you get there.

And you guys wonder why there is a shortage :-( I guess my stop at Gunstop isn't going to happen. As a rule, I buy something I need [i.e. a mould or mold handles] and a box of large and small pistol primers. That keeps me supplied. But, I guess Jon won't be seeing me for a bit now that I know you guys have run him dry.

Hehe .. I have had bullets and lead delivered [especially when I find the latter priced well ... often 75 cents per pound if you find the right person ... I collapsed a shelf under my stockpile]. My mailman professes that it is not a problem, but the last two deliveries have simply been cards to pick it up at the post office. The first day was rainy, so I thought he might be worried about the package, but the second time was 67F and sunny! Yep ... guy didn't want to lift the weight. So, the guy at the counter got to instead. I had a clerk complain that I should really owe more shipping on that and that flat rate boxes aren't intended for that. I argued back that the seller shipped and paid for it and tell him, but further, the weight limit for the box is 65 pounds and EVERY box has been less than 65 pounds ... so, her complaints were invalid. ;-) With the postal service increasing flat rate shipping, maybe I should by some more lead ;-) .. or maybe not.

Talked to a comp shooter who is a neighbor of a Federal Sales Rep. Good news, we will be ankle deep in primers in June or July! Facts are that the LE crowd is so stocked up with munitions that the supply chain is now shifting to commercial markets and that is good news. I am waist deep in primers, I got 24,000 in with a phone call, but no rifles, just 209 and large pistolm God Bless the 45ACP. Natchez in tennesee, or wherever is a great place to shop! (if you don't mind 120$ for shipping!)
Proudly launching lead from a Swiss P-240 at a range near you.

All I know is that a consumer, I am pissed with my suppliers.

As the snow has melted, I have found several thousand once-fired .45 ACP copper jacketed bullets, in what was until earlier this week a large snow drift in front of my chicken coop. Once fired brass shells are scattered all over the place.

With a few old socks, a couple of t-shirts, a pint of nitric acid and an aging chemistry degree, I can easilly make my own powder. Won't give away my primer recipe, though. At least not without some libacaious bribery. Though in a pinch, the heads of farmer matches should work just fine.

Say, who's gun are we going to test this stuff in anyhow? hammAR seems ever willing?
