I'd go the measuring cup route. As to shrinkage.....

George Castanza comes to mind when I read that. Its amazing how many jokes can be related to that show...

I say that question depends on who you are asking. Some may not have much to begin with, and therefore very little shrinkage is tolerable!

I've got an Ohaus triple beam scale you can use.

Make a balance, since you are not concerned with the weight, just equal division. Start with something cylindrical, like a piece of PVC pipe. Stick it to the floor or capture it in a way that it can't roll. Use a nice regular plank; measure the length, divide by two, and mark the center. Use two identical and clean containers and place one at each end of the plank, tangent to the plank's end. You might want to start with most of the powder split between the two containers, and use the balance to get it down to the last grain. Put a spirit level on the beam between the two containers to make it more accurate than the naked eye.

Two washed out plastic gallon milk jugs do it by eye, one pours and declares it equal, the other chooses. Other wise, someone here should have a postal scale. they should weigh to about 6 pounds, so you have plenty of room for Tare.

I have an electronic postal scale good to 20 pounds. You're welcome to use it.

So who gets to keep the factory jug?

I hate powder not stored in the original container.

We will solve that dilemma with the use of whiskey and Karaoke.

If that doesn't work, a series of "rock scissors paper" or thumb wrestling.

Turns out 6 beers, a popcorn bowl, two identical mixing bowls, a credit card, a funnel, and a 1/3 cup measuring cup is all that it takes! Two sets of eyes is also nice, and also the lack of too much anal retentiveness makes the whole thing a lot less stressful.

Although I am convinced in my never ending paranoia that Strad walked away with at minimum 37 grains of powder less than I got. Of course he didn't think so. Typical...

Nice doing business with you once again Sir. Hope your dog Hank didn't have the house torn down by the time you got home. Betcha he had a damn sock in his mouth though!

Now lets burn some of that powder this weekend.
