Taurus Tracker 44 Mag

Postby lumbering.buffalo on Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:40 pm

I've had a number of 44mags over the years. Super Blackhawk, Llama Comanche, 5 1/2" redhawk (should have kept that one) and a scoped 7 1/2 redhawk. I sold the scoped redhawk last year and am now looking for a field gun of sufficient caliber to thwart anything up to black bear or a beligerent moose. Since this would be carried more than shot I was thinking the Taurus Tracker 4" ported.

Anybody got one? Shot one? What do you think.

How about using a .45 colt with CorBon's .45 LC Magnum +P I have a Ruger Vaquero. I dropped a doe at 30 feet with this load.

I am not a fan of the Taurus company's products.

I had a Taurus 44 mag about 5 years ago. Pretty sure it was a 4", and I'm positive it was ported. Not sure if it was a tracker or not, though, and I don't remember if Taurus makes (or has made) other 44mag models in the past. I don't know how much the porting helped hold the barrel down, but it seemed to me like it made it mighty loud. Traded it back to the guy I got it from as he knew another guy that wanted to carry it.

Blasphamey Elmer! I love Taurus. I have 2 Tauri revolvers and have never had issues with either (.357 and .22 mag). Had a friend who had their 6 inch .44 Mag (this was before the tracker series) he never had issues with it. I shot it a few times, thought it shot well.

My brother has one, I ahve shot it. It is a bit of a handful but not that bad.

If you are interested I can borrow it so you can try it. It is very different thatn my heavy frame .44

There is nothing wrong with Taurus Revolvers, I have heard good things about their 1911.

Taurus is a reasonable product for a reasonable price, are they as pretty as a S&W or Colt, no but they work and shoot well.

I agree with that 100%. My first hand gun (still have it) is a .357 6 inch barrel. I have put more rounds through it than I can recall and it still is one of my favorites. I have taken deer with it (close range of course) and take it on every camping trip as my emergancy bear kit.

My brother bought a Tracker in .44 mag for a bear protection gun while riding his horses, I have a Raging Bull 6 inch .44 mag and really like it.

The worst part of the Taurus revolvers is the names, I like my S&W Combat Magnum's (686) name much better. :D

I always rename my guns myself anyway. My .357 is Old Faithful. :D

I've got two Tauruses, an 85 that's been great and a 94 that's been a turd.

You'll never hear a Smith, Colt or Ruger owner saying "gee golly I wish I got the Taurus instead". The big 3 will always have better resale too.

Just my $0.02. 8-)

I have been giving thought to a Old Model Vaquero or a Blackhawk in 44 mag, stainless, 4 5/8 inch barrel.

Again I expect this to be carried more than shot.

Very true, that having been said the Taurus (Tauri?) guns are not bad. I agree my "Raging Bull" will never be a Model (6)29 but for a hand held canon it works pretty well and is reliable and accurate enough for what I want to do with it.

And it cost a whole lot less than a S&W or Ruger, not to mention the cost of a Colt in good condition.

Not a Rolls Royce or even a Caddy, a Chevvy is a good analog.

A Chevy as long as it is a 3/4 ton truck. Built solid, works hard. Not pretty but gets the job done.

P.S. Tauri seemed better as a plural than Tauruses so I went with it.

Works for me, it is one of those weird words with no easy plural.
