Conveniently located just north of BFE.

I'm a transplant here from the South! I've been freezing my ass of here for almost 7 years! :!: I don't have a clue what or where "Isle" is or "Milaca". BFE ????? I call the mall in Bloomington the "BFM" (think about it!) but don't have a clue what BFE is?

:)

Thanks for the info guys. If I don't happen to find what I'm looking for at the gun show (RIA Tactical .45) I will order online.

Just an update. Bought a RIA 2 tone tactical off Gunbroker.com. Paid for it today CC over the phone with Bellshire Hardware in Nashville. The closest FFL is Doc's Firearms... (just a few blocks away so I decided to go with them).

Gun is supposed to ship today.

Will post more only if I run into any problems.

My Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911 arrived today:

A few observations:

1. Man this thing was packed in 50W oil, it could survive in the desert for a hundred years as long as it stayed in the plastic bag.
2. This is not a $ 1K gun. The finish is a bit rough but the parts fit without being too snug or loose. I have already dis-assembled the slide and wiped the oil off it.
3. I have seen some models of this with a full length guide rod. This one does not have that! ???? It will soon!
4. I have not been able to find any spec on the frame. Is it nickel plated! The Armscor website is rather lacking in information and I cannot find a website for Rock Island Armory.

I had a Springfield 1911 back in the 90's and the finish was better on that gun. This frame could have seen a few minutes on the buffing wheel before it went into the plating tank.

Overall, I consider it a good value. Considering you get low profile sights, extended thumb safety, lighter trigger and beaver tail for the price of a stock .45, a pretty good bargain.

Will try to make it to the range next week sometime and start breaking it in.

Very nice rig!
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Looks nickel judging by the color in the photos. Nickel has a slight goldish cast to it compared with chrome or stainless.
The bold type giveth, the fine print taketh away.

According one of the 1911 forums the frame finish is satin nickel.

Sweet gun;)

I just bought a gun on gunbroker.com myself last week. I haven't posted anything in this thread yet because the deal isn't done yet and I don't have the gun. Once everything is finalized and I have the gun in possession, I will post my overall experiences buying online and will of course post a picture or two;)

After looking at this rig, I may need to get a 1911 myself.
