Cool! Will you be back in time to dominate the steel match Saturday with your new awesome skillz?

I won't be at this Saturday's match, but maybe next month. Probably won't be dominating anything, either, although I am learning a lot of good stuff. Oh, I met some guys out here who know you from Faribault IDPA; Jeff and Karl, I believe. After sharing a hearty laugh at your expense, we all agreed what a good revolver shooter and all-around swell guy you are.

I figured you and Pinnacle weren't lying, but I still had to experience it for myself...everyone should.

So...late yesterday afternoon, a low-flying helicopter came in for a landing at Front Sight. I thought it might be The Messiah Dr. Piazza himself. It wasn't on the ground for more than five minutes before taking off again. It was then that I saw the logo on the side of the copter...air ambulance. "Heart attack or someone got shot," I said to those nearby.

The details trickled in, and we learned the whole story in a briefing this morning: 22-year-old Marine named James; self-inflicted gunshot into leg resulting from negligent discharge during draw from holster; 1911 45 ACP; Blackhawk Serpa holster; bullet entered thigh and exited below knee.

They patched James up in Vegas and he is going to be alright. In fact, he was back today and is finishing his course...on crutches. Only a US Marine! We had a chance to meet him, tell him we were glad he was alright, and thank him for his service to the country.

Full details of this and other FS incidents here: http://www.frontsight.com/SafetyReports ... ingle&ID=5

I'm not a fan of the Serpa...I think it's a disaster waiting to happen. It's a good theory, but it encourages putting that finger in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most likely if he'd been using another holster he'd have been just fine.

Tell those guys hi, and that I've decided to shoot both Stock and Enhanced Service Revolver this year, one with each hand.

And he could have kept the safety on until the gun was level and pointed downrange. Just sayin'.

Well, yeah. But if you should happen to forget that little item, the Serpa is not the holster to be using when you do

Tru dat. It's just more of a reminder to myself. I went through a short period where I has clicking off the safety shortly after the gun leaving the holster. Maybe subconsciously I thought that it was faster (non-sense, I know). I fixed it when I realized what I was doing. I just need to remember that there is plenty of time to click the safety off after the gun is level.
