So...late yesterday afternoon, a low-flying helicopter came in for a landing at Front Sight. I thought it might be
The Messiah Dr. Piazza himself. It wasn't on the ground for more than five minutes before taking off again. It was then that I saw the logo on the side of the copter...air ambulance. "Heart attack or someone got shot," I said to those nearby.
The details trickled in, and we learned the whole story in a briefing this morning: 22-year-old Marine named James; self-inflicted gunshot into leg resulting from negligent discharge during draw from holster; 1911 45 ACP; Blackhawk Serpa holster; bullet entered thigh and exited below knee.
They patched James up in Vegas and he is going to be alright. In fact, he was back today and is finishing his course...on crutches. Only a US Marine! We had a chance to meet him, tell him we were glad he was alright, and thank him for his service to the country.
