Source?
What does it cost to bring the president to Minnesota? $100k?
Roughly:
Prior to a presidential trip, a team of secret service agents scout the location & venue: figure even if they fly commercial, would be a 4 man team ($2,000 for tickets; $600 for hotels; $500 for meals): $3,100 (and that is most likely not even close)
Air Force One costs ~ $179,750 per HOUR to operate (2 hours flight time each way from DC): $719,000. A lot of times, they roll a SECOND presidential plane in case AF1 has issues, but I am assuming here they will not, due to it being a domestic flight, and the short lead time to fly the backup from D.C. (but they WILL be on standby in case AF1 breaks).
Obama never leaves D.C. without "The beast" (his personal rolling fortress) as well as other support vehicles. Minimum vehicles: 2 "beats" (one is a decoy & minor VIPs), 2 com vans, 1 SS SUV, 1 nuke/bio/chem detection van, 1 unit (minimum) counter-terrorist attack team, 1 unit (minimum) countermeasure unit, 2 support vehicles (minimum) for staff/ POTUS doctor/etc, 2 press vans (minimum). Plus local law enforcement running lead, blocking, point, and rear, and an ambulance. However, Obama motorcades are usually at 40-45 vehicles. So assume operating costs of $0.51/mile (what the gov allows for mileage reimbursement, but probably WAY LOW for these rollers): $2,000 just in mileage expense (and only going ~ 40-50 miles round trip)
The support aircraft tagging along can vary wildly. When he went to India in 2010, it was 6 armored cars plus support vehicles and 40 (yes, FOUR ZERO) support aircraft. Figure just to haul around his convoy, you can probably fit 8-10 vehicles in a C-17 Globemaster. Plus, the "beasts" roll alone I believe (for security of course). So squeeze the motorcade into a total of 5 Globemasters. Each one costs $6.960 an hour to operate. So his cargo costs would be $139,200. Not even accounting for fighter escorts here, or if he drags along Marine One (which he usually does).
Assume his entourage is salary, so whether he is here or not, they are on the clock: $0
So just from what is outlined above, that is just a paltry $863,000. And it wasn't everything, and excluded things he usually brings along. Realistically, it is probably more like a mil-5 to get his ass here and back.
Just to put it in perspective: when Barry wanted to do a 30 minute flyover of NYC to impress Michelle "my belle" it cost us $328,835 to do so (according to the Air Force), was AF1 & 2 F-16s, and that involved zero time on ground.
All Hail King Barry!
