Why I love Minnesota.

Postby photogpat on Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:10 am

I was emailing with a friend of mine in Massachusetts yesterday. He was looking to purchase a WWII Remington Rand 1911 from a member of his church. It was a parts matching, nice condition, etc...(I'm no expert).

Anyhow - the hoops he has to jump through in order to buy it are ridiculous, not to mention that even when he DOES buy it (cause he's going to jump through the hoops) - he won't have a place to shoot it because all the ranges in Eastern MA are private clubs with outrageously high joiners fees.

We were talking about my collection vs. his -- he has a .22...I have more than that because MN doesn't put as many restrictions on me.

In short - I love living here for this reason (among others).

There's a reason that I will never live in Massachusetts again. Ever.

Almost the same reasons that I'll never live in California either (oddly enough, I've been offered opp's to live both places that I declined).

Why I hate MN

No matter what hoops I am willing to jump thru, I cannot legally posess a sound supression device for my firearm. I do a lot of hunting, and particularly have gotten involved with a lot of after dark coyote hunting during the winter. Fire a couple shots once a 1am and see how fast a LEO is over to check you out. And LEO' don't really treat ya too well when you are armed at 1am in general. In Europe silencers/supressors are mandantory in most places to hunt, but not here in MN, somebody might poach something

Yes it does, but they also have organized crime in the police force and judiciary and steal, without penalty, firearms from senior citizens who have lived there their whole lives.

My yard is full of destructive varmints after dark, I would love to have a supressor for that very reason.

Many states allow them and Fed only requires permits to purchase so in this case YES MN is behind the times. They where invented for hunting and somehow some states think they will become mobster heaven or something if allowed.

I'm sick of setting gopher traps, and seeing you are in Zim-town you are probably dealing with the sam **** I am. The tax stamp would be completely worth it.

Have you tried calling the SO/PD in advance to let them know you're hunting?

Suppressors are not legal in MN for us mere humans, tax stamp or not. As are non-c&r full autos, move to WI.

Hmm, when I do 10 sets in a night covering at least 4 jurisdictions its kinda pointless. Even when I put a note in my car window that explains I am hunting, never fire a shot, and am 100% law abiding, I have been proned out. Maybe some LOE's need to learn the laws on predator hunting at night. Like the laws that let me use a rifle if I am not using artificial lights
