It is interesting, I shoot suppressed weapons all of the time, and there is a HUGE difference in 160 dB to 140dB to 120dB - the sound signature is maganitudes lower than a naked gun.
With a good can, you can shoot about anything without hearing protection - and not worry about hearing damage, especially outdoors. a Suppressed 45 is a joy to shoot, and a Suppressed .22 is an absolute kick...
Shot a 338LM with a Suppressor the other day, and that was interesting. 50 BMG Suppressed is also bearable, but even Moses split the red sea only once... The Sonic Boom is pretty loud, but not too bad on the shooter.
