Word on the street is 22LR is were it is at for suppressors, but lets face it, go big, or go home.

+1

I'd probably still wear plugs with a 7mm mag, but it's nice to not have to double plug or really stick them in there when hunting. Plus, the guy next to you doesn't get pounded like they do when you have a muzzle brake. It would be great for not scaring the game so much.

I might just build one and leave it in ND where I hunt anyway.

It is interesting, I shoot suppressed weapons all of the time, and there is a HUGE difference in 160 dB to 140dB to 120dB - the sound signature is maganitudes lower than a naked gun.

With a good can, you can shoot about anything without hearing protection - and not worry about hearing damage, especially outdoors. a Suppressed 45 is a joy to shoot, and a Suppressed .22 is an absolute kick...

Shot a 338LM with a Suppressor the other day, and that was interesting. 50 BMG Suppressed is also bearable, but even Moses split the red sea only once... The Sonic Boom is pretty loud, but not too bad on the shooter.

This past December, I shot a 4 day precision rifle course. Most students were using .308 bolt guns although not everyone.

On day #3, the senior instructor broke out his suppressed .308 Win bolt run....a heavily modified Rem 700. I was standing about 4 feet from him when he laid the rifle across the hood of his truck as he prepped to take a shot on steel at 500 yds. I had removed my muffs and pulled the foam plugs (I always double up when rifle shooting). As I scrambled for my hearing protection, he looked at me and said not to worry. So I didn't.

My jaw nearly hit the ground when he pulled the trigger. I swear my M&P 15-22 makes 10 times more noise compared to his rifle. He was pushing 175 gr SMKs at 2700 FPS, not what I would consider a light load...and certainly supersonic.

That was the first suppressed firearm, other than a .22LR pistol, that I had heard. To say I was impressed would be a gross understatement. I keep my fingers crossed that Minnesota will change the law before I move back home to retire.

I think this is a safety issue, no question about it.

It's also called being a good neighbor when I don't wake up night shift workers who live next to my range.

Someone made a can specifically for the M&P 15-22, and that's the one I'd get first. Nothing I currently has have a threaded barrel.

I'd convert or sell every rifle I had into 300 Blackout or 7.62 x whatever. So that's one suppressor to cover my rifles and one in .45 for my 1911 that I'd also use on my .40s. It would be a great day... And make me broke buying and burning through ammo.

Trust gets you around that. And I would imagine any LEO who wouldn't sign off on a suppressor wouldn't sign off on ANY NFA.

Hearsay on m4carbine is a member talked to an ATF agent at 2012 SHOT and he affirmed they green lighted forgoing sigs. And would give notice instead. In exchange everyone on a trust/LLC would need to be finger printed and subject to the background check etc. Said agent also affirmed DOJ green lighted it and is going through another agency (forgot which) to process it legally. And estimated it won't happen in 2012.

I'm on my phone without a link. Search it if you want but it is from the Internet, so who knows.
