If you notice, I cited Merriam Webster. The people who define the words in the English language. Who say clip is an acceptably synonym for magazine. Whether you like it or not. But hey, if you think Merriam Webster now has a liberal anti-gun agenda, the tighten up that tinfoil hat! You're going to need it.
Languages change. You either adapt to the modern vernacular, or you look like a dinosaur.
Heffay wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammunition_clipThe term clip is commonly used to describe a firearm magazine, especially in newspapers, movies, and on television. Because of this usage, the Merriam-Webster dictionary now defines a clip as "a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles; also :a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm".
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/clipDefinition of CLIP
1: any of various devices that grip, clasp, or hook
2: a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles; also : a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm
Now, I hope we can put this magazine vs clip argument to bed. What a waste of time to argue it. It makes you look like an ass if you correct people.
Heffay wrote:That's nice. I'm going to start referring to magazines as clips from now on, because a) that's what they are now, and b) it tweaks you a lot. I can troll and be grammatically correct at the same time, and the angst will feed me and make me strong.

The same thing holds true for changing the spelling of words. Should we embrace changing the spelling of words because common culture is to lazy to use the right letters, all the letters or letters in the right order to spell something? Again, where does it end.
As for the word "superfluous" used earlier, I believe it was used correctly. That is, unless they changed the meaning of it on me since I learned what it meant so many years ago (which the way things are going, wouldn't surprise me).

Talking about the dumbing down of culture on this board is really amusing to me.
And where does it end? It NEVER DOES. Welcome to history of everything. At what point in time would you like to freeze all development?
