About half as much as you lead a running one.

Are we buying scopes or penguins?

I thought we were going to club the penguins with the scopes.

In that case I vote for Mueller, just had one shipped from Florida in nothing but it's retail box wrapped in magazine pages with a couple wrapped around the scope inside.. that's it. Showed up today with most of the paper missing from the outside of the box, a huge hole in the bottom through the interior box and a gouge that looks like someone stabbed the outside objective lens bell with a flat head screwdriver.

Optics look clear (well, as much as any $200 scope looks at 25x magnification :) ), mechanical adjustments all check out and it survived the boiling water and freezer tests (after which the seller and I have worked out a final shooting test before I accept a significant refund - otherwise it goes back). I was tempted to just send it back but since I'd never seen a scope take this sort of abuse in shipping curiosity got the best of me.

So if you want a cheap penguin bashing scope and still be set to throw it in your rifle and knock down a polar bear, I'd go Mueller.. if you just want a big ass hunk of glass and steel (er... questionable pot metal alloy and plastic)... hey, what happened to the NCStar/BSA options?

I've never had penguin, I think they're fish eaters. Do they taste like eagle?

A bit more like spotted owl, good with some butter, lemon and cracked pepper.

Flaming Penguin Kabob

An Armenian specialty, this Antarctic variation will delight even the most discriminating palette.

•2 pounds cubed penguin
•2 sliced onions
•2 sliced green or red bell peppers
•1 cup olive oil
•1 bottle Bud Ice (chilled)
•1 teaspoon salt
•1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
•1/2 teaspoon ground garlic
•1/4 teaspoon chili powder
•2 Bay Leaves
•3 sharp skewers

Slice penguin into 1-inch cubes. Mix spices in with olive oil. Marinade cubes in spice mix. Refrigerate overnight, stirring occasionally. Slice onions and bell peppers into wedges. Place vegetables and penguin cubes alternately on skewers. Brush lightly again with marinade. Grill for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown outside. Turn and baste continually with Bud Ice. Douse lightly with brandy and light before serving.

Actually looks good! Break out the penguin clubs! Be sure to hit them in the head so you don't bruise the meat...

Puffy Penguin Omelet

A secret recipe of the cooks onboard Jacques Cousteau's Calypso. This dish blends traditional French cuisine with an Antarctic surprise. Perfect for lunch and a lite dinner as well as breakfast.

•2 penguin wings (minced)
•3 eggs, separated
•2 1/2 tablespoons milk
•1 cup sour cream
•1 tablespoon butter
•1/4 teaspoon salt
•1/8 teaspoon pepper
•1 large tomato, peeled and diced
•1 green onion, sliced
•1/4 teaspoon Bud Ice (chilled)
•1/8 teaspoon, dill weed

Separate egg yolks from whites. First beat egg whites until stiff. In separate bowl, beat egg yolks until thick. Add in milk, salt and pepper into egg yolks, stirring stiffly. Fold egg yolk mix gently into egg white mix. Place skillet in oven pre-heated to 300°F. Coat bottom of skillet with butter. Pour omelet mix into skillet and bake until puffy and light brown. While baking, dice tomato, onion and penguin wings, and add with Bud Ice into sour cream. When omelet is ready, pour penguin mix into omelet. Fold omelet and remove from oven. Pour remainder of penguin mix over top of omelet.

They taste just like the Common Loon. Not all that great, a bit fishy.

This is my favorite.
SICILIAN LOON

Clean the Loon by separating and saving only the breasts, thighs and legs with all skin and fat removed. Rinse, place in a bowl and cover with milk to which a shot of brandy and a shot glass full of fresh chopped garlic have been added. Cover and allow to soak overnight in the refrigerator. Remove from refrigerator, drain and allow to come to room temperature. Roll in seasoned flour and fry until lightly browned. Place pieces in baking dish and sprinkle with fresh chopped garlic and rosemary bake covered for 1.5 hours and serve.
