how exactly do you suggest using a pistol like a rifle? the the lack of a stock to hold against your shoulder is what makes it different. how agaist the rules is using two hands when firing a pistol (if its not a revolver and you don't cover the muzzle or put your hand behind the slide)? It does say designed to be, does that mean using two hands is a nono?

I don't mean shooting it like a rife, as in position - More along the lines of getting rifle-like results from a pistol. Though there is no substitute for a rifle.

I was thinking of shooting the challenge one-handed with a 60# draw compound bow after watching a couple loops of Kate Upton showing us her version of the Cat Daddy on Youtube.

Uh, I don't think this challenge even contemplates anyone using a scope at 25 yards. Think rifleman as in The Green Mountain Boys or Sargent York, Daniel Boone or Davey Crockett. C'mon guys.....

I've actually found that shooting, or at least dry firing at a 25 yd target with a scope(10x), prone aids in developing control of the rifle. You see the effect of every twitch, breath, and heartbeat.

Well, I looked at the video to the one minute mark and saw the scope. Officially LAME in my opinion. Really? While I can see that dry firing through a scope could be a good training aid, shooting at a target 25 yards away with a scope and then being proud enough of your efforts to record your score on a website is kinda like everyone getting a ribbon or trophy in elementary school. No challenge. I thought we were celebrating riflemen. This is celebrating someone who can pull a trigger.....no real skill needed.

FWIW, I agree that it doesn't make for much of a competition. However, it is good marketing. It gets people out to shoot a rifle that otherwise wouldn't and it demonstrates to the potential customer (probably not you judging by your sig line) that they have more to learn about precision rifle shooting while offering them a clinic where they can learn those skills. And it looks fun.

To those who never shot with a sling- and I'm convinced many shooters never get off sandbags/ tables- it will be a new experience, which some may well embrace.

It's fairly easy to ratchet up the challenge level if one so desires... Sprint 100 yards and then drop and do 20 pushups before grabbing the rifle and firing the string... add a mag change at 2 or 5 rounds... cut the time down to 50 or even 40 seconds... shoot a bone-stock factory rifle with original iron sights... If you are shooting a rifle capable of 1" groups at 100 yards challenge yourself to shoot .25" groups at 25 yards.

Hey I don't know about you guys... But I had a heck of a time staying on target in prone, with no sling, rest or bags. And I had a scope! If you guys can get all 10's in the same circumstances... More power to you.
It shows me what I need to work on for sure.

And hey, whatever gets more people shooting is good for all of us! I love a friendly competition, and this thread, leading me to that friendly, family, oriented challenge is the reason I went out and shot that day. I'm sure it was the reason for a lot of people. They made the challenge easy to set up, easy to complete, fun and competitive, for any age. Who cares about the yardage and sights.

As someone that shoots in a 4 position rimfire league where the bullseye is .17", shooting this prone will be a walk in the park. As someone that runs our local range.....there are a lot, if not a good majority of shooters that would struggle with this if you take away any support. My plan is just to have fun with it and try some different things......how fast can you do this in all 4 of the basic shooting positions?

Since none of my 10/22's have a rear sling stud I had to order an 1 1/4" swivel to attach my cuff sling...Hopefully I'll get out this weekend for a little fun. Sounds like a good excuse to bust out my 39M too.

Hitting a 1" target consistently at 25 yards from an unsupported position for a shooter without any real training even with a scope is harder than it appears. Someone who's used to sitting at a bench with their forend on bags blasting through a scope is likely in for a rude awakening - particularly when it comes to figuring out how to use the sling properly for support.

If this is a gateway to interest people who want to further improve their skills by attending a more formal marksmanship clinics or shooting programs it's good for them, and certainly good for the shooting community at large (accurate shots are safe shots). I also happen to think that one attribute of being a true rifleman is humility, a desire to further one's skills regardless what "level" they are at and encourage/enable the growth of others in the craft rather than belittling those that are just beginning the journey or may not understand their own limits.

.25 yards? I haven't tried it, But I hope I can keep things together at 9 inches.
