Wife bought her first handgun today - at Gander Mountain

Postby Erud on Sun Jan 10, 2016 8:43 pm

My wife got her carry permit a few months ago, and has just been shooting guns we already have on hand while she has been figuring out what she likes and doesn't like. We've been shopping around lately and she had decided on what she wanted to get. After some internet research, comparing prices, etc, she found the best price at Gander Mountain. That's right, I said gander mountain. I called to store to see if they actually had it in stock, and was on hold for 10 minutes with the gun counter before hanging up. It's only 20 minutes away, so we decided to just drive over. On the way there, I warned her what she might expect from GM staff, based on my previous personal experiences. When we got there, I have to admit that I couldn't really have been happier with how everything went. They had the pistol in stock for the advertised price, and the whole process went through without any hassle of any sort. The sales guy was friendly and knowledgeable, and treated my wife very well. I was impressed. Many of the other guns that I looked at were definitely priced high, but for whatever reason, the one she wanted was priced better than any deal we could find online, even before before factoring shipping and transfer fees.

Anyways, thought it was worth mentioning as it is the first good experience I've had there in some years. In fact, I really don't even go in there anymore, and wouldn't have tonight if we hadn't found the pistol on their web page. And before Seismic Sam chimes in, no, I am not an employee or shill for GM.

Sorry "dude", I intentionally left that out because she is not on this forum, and I'm not really interested in fielding questions about her choice, or trying to explain her reasoning for it. The point of the post was that it is still possible to actually have a good experience at Gander Mountain. I hope you can get over this internet disappointment.

I know you're NOT a shill!! You appear to be a lemur of some sort...

Considering the weather, however, I think I can still safely say that it will be a cold day in Hell before anybody gets a good deal and decent service at GM. Did you buy it while the Vikings were playing?? :freezin: :freezin: :freezin:

Have bought a rifle at GM in the past but only becuase of a sale. Otherwise, I won't even go in there stores. The guy who runs the counter in st cloud is pretty good to deal with. Smart move to shop around. Did that with my recent purchase of my glock 27 Gen 4. Nice to find stores that offer military discounts. Now time to get her to the range at least once a month to get accustom to her new weapon.

Top one Chris. Just because your girly little hands can't handle it doesn't mean hers can't. :bolt:

My wife bought her last gun, Walther PPS, at Gander Mountain. They had and still have the broadest selection of pistols in this area so she was able to hold the ones she was interested in and compare them. PPS was the only single stack and that's the way she went. I went along only to advise her away from the junk...the decision to go gun shopping was hers and the purchase decision was hers. The price was high at GM as it usually is, but I didn't really care about that...it was convenient and the service was fine.

Just kidding about that. I make asian jokes with her all the time, and she makes jokes about me being a hillbilly. Both are accurate. And funny.
