Improved police practices and greater public awareness about what to do in an 'active shooter scenario' may have limited casualties during the Clackamas mall shooting Tuesday in Portland, Ore.

Many news stories are also saying that the number of mass shootings isn't changing very much. I suspect our attitudes are changing more than the stats are changing. In other words, all of us - pro and anti - are becoming sensitized to the news stories and pay more attention.
On the other hand, the above article concludes that people are more prepared. As carry permits continue to rise across the country, and people take more responsible for their own personal defense (as well as defense of those around them), I'm not surprised.
So, rather than agree that Rome is burning, I believe it's the exact opposite - our society is becoming better prepared and is more willing to take a stand against the nut jobs and homocidal maniacs. I think what's changing isn't the number of shootings, it's the number of people who are willing to do something about it (by being prepared).

Participated in no adult organized activities (except for perhaps Band/Choir) growing up!
Lives in his parent’s basement (at least still at home)!
Watches lots of violent Movies!
Has spent 20 to 40 hour per week playing violent video games for the last 10 years!
These are all noted factors in the perpetrators of ALL of the mass killings since the first one in Jonesboro AR.

Only difference now is that the media (anti-gun media) is more than willing to capitolize on these tragedies to generate bigger advertising contracts, than to present fair/balanced/accurate reporting.

I was in band in high school.
For economic and personal reasons, I had to move back into my Mom's basement.
I enjoy movies of all kinds.
I enjoy video games of all kinds.
Does this mean I should be singled out as a potentially dangerous member of society?
Saying that these things are a cause of violent behavior are like saying, as the much used quote goes, that spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.
While I agree that there are many things wrong with this society, the root cause of this behavior is what needs to be figured out. Personally, I would be scrutinizing parents and the public education system.

TMan, you're right, but ALL of those that did kill, fit this mold. Most adults are not going to be badly affected by these precursors, but the few is what we're talking about here.
Give the book and more importantly the background research going back to 1952 a read, it’s an eye opener.
