Twin Cities mayors call for state law change to let cities act on gun reforms
Several Twin Cities mayors and local community groups are calling for state legislators to change the law so the cities can pass their own gun reforms.

Currently, Minnesota law doesn’t allow municipalities to implement any ordinances related to guns, except to prohibit the discharge of a firearm and to conform to state law.

In the wake of the mass shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis last week, local officials are urging statewide changes.

Could be a nightmare for anyone traveling through one of those jurisdictions with the wrong type firearm. Frey doesn’t even know what he’s talking about when trying to define an assault rifle, what a grandstander. He must be looking down the road to a run for a higher office since he gets in front of every TV camera he can find.

Republicans release school safety package ahead of potential special session
The proposals include expanding school safety funding to nonpublic schools, boosting funding for mental health treatment beds, and more.
Republicans in the Minnesota legislature announced a school-safety agenda on Thursday they say they’ll make a priority to pass during a potential special session and during next year’s regular session.

The package of bills includes several provisions to enhance safety and security measures at public and private school campuses across the state, boost funding and capacity for inpatient mental health treatment, and increase penalties for straw purchasers and repeat gun criminals.

Those are all proposals Republicans introduced in recent legislative sessions, which they say Democrats balked at, including a request for funds to be allocated to nonpublic schools for security enhancements.

Without state preemption, a carry permit is virtually worthless: "you can carry, except everywhere you can't". A flat overturn of Shall Issue would be more honest; or are the antis so clueless that they genuinely think that this would be a reasonable "compromise"?
