Worth it, IMHO.

Is it strange that I get excited about having a rifle delivered to my door? I get all giggly inside.

At our club, memberships are $20 per year and includes any of your children under 18. Cost to shoot the qualification is $10 per person including ammo. So a total of $30 and 2-3 hours of your time per year. I don't know what it costs elsewhere.
Here in the cities $20 buys you one trip to an indoor range. I am a member of a club, it is cheaper, but further away, requires a work commitment, and is limited to daytime hours. Also, $625 isn't really pocket change(it's a bit more than half of my house payment), and ammo isn't really cheap, either. Unless you have a somewhat different definition of cheap. M1s were about $400 only a couple of years ago, but it's not even that. New production ammo costs have gone up significantly in the last 6-7 years. There is no more cheap surplus aside from 7.62x54 and 5.45 and occasional 8mm.

So yeah, I think cost does figure into it.

Yeah, it may be a bit of a hassle, but I'm willing to go through a little hassle to have a rifle shipped directly to my door. I just need to figure out where I'm going to find the time to do it and find $650.

Being that .30-06 is a very expensive round to shoot, I won't be shooting it very much, but everyone's gotta have a M1 Garand in their collection!

BTW, White Horseradish: I like your signature. It's also from the old 90's video game "Duke Nukem."
