IMHO, It's high time that the comparatively high cost of custom defensive ammo be balanced by the simple fact that the correct, ultra low cost treatment of the bullet nose with a drill press procedure can save a huge amount of cash. I would highly doubt the the related articles written back in the 50's and 60's, from which I first learned of this 'trick' are web accessible; too bad. HKIM, the reduced pill weight has a corresponding effect on how the round behaves. Read your fired primer, chrony, gel hits and amount of perceived recoil. The expanding characteristics are as individual as the procedure you execute on the nose of the bullet. I will not pass any recommended hole diameters nor shapes due to the liability/harm/death issues of an individual struck by these detructive items. BTW, keep your "center" on "center". I am amazed at how much money the merchandisers of "defense ammo" ease out of the shooter's funds to provide agressive shock/flesh-tissue/knockdown bullets. I have been customizing "manstopper" bullets this way for years, and shoot them into a safe backstop. Please pay distinct attention to the thickness of the bullet's jacket, whether it is steel, copper, bronze, plate, hard (quenched), medium or soft lead. Please, avoid modifying or "tipping" frangible, tracer, uranium, phosphorus, explosive or "dum-dum" military bullets. Don't modify loaded rounds! You should only modify single, solitary inert bullets. REPEAT: BULLETS. Don't ever epoxy shotgun or rifle primers alone or in combination with ball bearing strikers in the nose. Do not use tungsten carbide penetrator tips, explosives, poisons, flammable or restricted compounds embedded in the nose! Armor piercing ammo possession will cost you 20 years in the slammer. This comment is not to be construed as an instruction to create enhanced bullets that may be used in any activity other than only controlled target practice under safe conditions with an adult in charge shot through guns in new condition. Thanks, and happy drilling!
