The gun I won (for $400 even) is a rare Tanfoglio GT-41 in hard chrome finish in 41AE. Getting a spare Tanfoglio 9mm barrel and mags should be no problem!!
woo-hoo!!

Original IMI factory cartridges are much hotter, pushing a 170gr bullet at 1215ft/s

And in the latest installment of things 1911 fan has done and not gotten killed or thrown in jail, we have shooting 16 pound bowling balls out of a well casing with gasoline fumes, and perhaps destroying a jeep downrange.
As far as the 41AE is concerned, it is the brainchild of Evan Whildin of Action Arms (also responsible for the 50AE cartridge), and it is a rebated short 41 case with a 9mm rim. It originally allowed you to go from 9mm to 41 caliber with a simple barrel and mag swap. Kind of a cool idea, but the emergence of the 40 S&W killed this cartridge deader than a doornail. In addition, with a case that small, I doubt you can really equal 41 Mag ft-lbs, and I can barely do that with my EAA 45 Super gun, which delivers just shy of 700 ft-lbs.
The one exception to all this is that there were quite a few Uzi barrels chambered in 41AE, and a 41 caliber Uzi is truly a weapon to be reckoned with. They (the gun barrels) are still available on gunbroker.com. I think Larry at Gunstop has one, which is why he bought up all my 41AE brass after my initial plan went bust.
As far as loading the ammo, I plan to duplicate the original hot loads at most, and leave it at that. With a 357 SIG and a 38 Super running 9x23 Win cases, there is the possibility of going over factory specs, particularly with the 38 Super. The guy at Pony Express has actually fessed up to getting 115 grain bullets up to 2,000 fps with a 38 Super, although the primers were flat (meaning no firing pin indent either!!) and he never tried to use the brass again.
And as far as being rich enough to afford a cheap gun to experiment with, yes, I spent $349 on a NIB EAA 45 with the expectation of maybe having it blow on me as I worked it up to 45 Super. Turns out Tanfoglio guns are ungodly strong, so I have no qualms about having the new gun handling full power 41AE ammo.
