+1 for Kroil, that stuff rules!
Run a patch with Kroil on it through your clean barrel. You'll see, next time you clean it all fouling will come out that much easier.
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

"You're shooting cast lead in your .30-06?

If so i'd think it's a completely different animal than my lswc for my .45. After several hundred rounds (5-600) in a range trip, I get a bit of leading. not terrible, but it needs to go."

Yep, 165-214gr lead bullets in the 03-A3. They load cheaper and you don't need to clean the barrel very often.

If you get just a bit of leading forward of the chamber in your 45, thats pretty normal. Shooters Choice makes a lead removing solvent, Wolfs Den usually has it, Gunstop might carry it also.

I'd imagine you are probably using gas checks on those 30-06 bullets which will dramatically decrease leading than if had plain naked lead based bullets.
Decrypt the points of departure and return your head slowly and you do not cancel your hair.

Giving both plain base and gas checked a try. Keeping the PB around 1600-1700 fps.

There is a real - real simple solution

Shoot a mag/cylinder full of FMJ's - that takes care of 99.9% of the leading problems.

Most gunsmiths would disagree with this option as it can drastically increase pressure and cause serious isssues such as bulging. I don't know for sure but that is what I have heard from several sources. I have done it with revolvers but not with an auto. Just a thought

Intersperse FMJ's into your shooting and then finish with them ....0 Problems in 26 years of shooting seriously.

The electro plated ones work fairly well at keeping the leading down. Besides, when you clean your .22lr the accuracy suffers. :P

Well you can try here for the FMJ .22LR
http://www.rimfireuniverse.com/

Or at Gun Shows, you can sometimes find WW2 military FMJ .22LR.
Designed, I was told, because lead .22LR was considered expanding ammo under the Hague convention. There was talk about this on "The High Road" forums.
