Steel not drop?

9mm and hitting low on a large popper.

Man, I argued that same point at a different meet, far, far away, til I was blue in the face. Such a thing seems darned unreasonable, if I do say so myself.

Actually, I was indeed using a .45, but some idiot had propped up the target incorrectly (er..., that's my story, anyway, and I'm sticking to it). Five square hits, COM, and the darned thing wouldn't drop. We had fresh paint and the whole shebang...

Come on, now. Somebody agree with me! I mean, I was wronged, OK?

Ok, so this was during a training exercise.

But the greatest thing I walked away from that time was, "There is no 'fair' in a gun fight. You have just been ******."

I agree with you completely and while I don't feel wronged, I was kinda bummed when the dang poppers wouldn't fall after multiple hits with my wussy 9mm.

Mac, you can't complain, you were the one that tested them. I think it was more a combination of you're light loads, light bullets and short barrel that did it.

My 38 Stupids didn't have a problem, then I didn't give it a chance to fight back, drop 3 or four right on top of each other in about half a second. It does the trick on steel and for real!

It's all a matter of energy transferred to the target. Some variant of (1/2)(m*v^2) right selurcspi?

Ya Pat, that is a good ???? , I put two 200 gr .45's on that right hand popper the first round and it did not go down.....must have been the wind, the next one dropped it and we checked it and set it up a bit different for the next shooter. Someone shot it later and it fell sideways . I guess next time I will just have to shoot more , and shoot faster

None of the above really means much on the street.

Remember small holes can be made bigger, but not reliably.
Big holes never get smaller.
The only thing that matters is tissue damage. The quicker BG bleeds out, the quicker you are safe from further attack.

Gun games are just that, games. Perhaps they are useful as training, but not for the quality of shooting, mostly for adrenalin acclimatization.

So, why could I go "ting" with my factory .45 loads and the poppers go down - every time.

The 9mm guys go "ting, ting, ting, ting, ting, ting" and the popper may go down.

It really bothered me, early on in my studies, why engineers could not simply rely on theoretical physics. Why all this experimentation, wondered I, as I squandered my lab job's pay check on fresh beer and friendly gal folk...

Aren't the foot pounds calculations a little off? :?

Using your numbers shouldn't the .45 be 295 ft/lbs and the 9mm be 309 ft/lbs?

Yeah, but it still doesn't "ring" true.
