I would have been inclined to show him my permit and then requested a manager so I could get a refund for all of my groceries. Rainbow Foods is right across the street.

I agree with this in reservation... Sometimes I have the time to educate chumps, sometimes I don't... But I do not readily hand out my home address, full name, and drivers license number to anyone.

(Wife and I are alone) I would not have shown the card stating that it contains personal information that is only required to be shown to a sworn officer. If he persisted, I would have Affirmed that I not required to show him anything. If he asked me to leave, I would reply, "I certainly will comply as soon as a manager refunds the money for the groceries I just bought" Manager comes, I try to have a civilized conversation about my rights, and their rights, and the ramifications of their decision. Hopefully goes well, I grab my groceries, and I can continue getting my Gas coupons.

(Kids with us, Baby Crying, Daughter grabbing all the impulse candy) I would have said he can see my card as soon as I am done loading the groceries. If he hung around, I would flash him the card, as I was leaving. If he demanded to see it I would flash him the card, and ask the name of his supervisor, and give them a call later...

Don't feel embarrassed about being made... It happens... Don't be embarrassed about carrying openly, a right unused is a worthless right.

I think that you did the right thing - it is best to never escalate any situation. I think that there are a lot of potential problems with open carry and you had better be ready for those problems and have a good response ready should you choose to engage in OC.

I sometimes do and there have been no problems - but then again - everyone out here knows me which is a good and a bad thing I suppose.

I'm don't have munchkins yet, so I have a bit more flexibility. I think once those start arriving, I'll have to rewrite a few plans.

I would have offered up up that if he was curious to learn what a permit looks like, that he was welcome to attend my next class.

I'm going to quote myself just to make a point that, a very large portion of you are instructors and this method certainly couldn't hurt your wallet.

By inviting the mall cop to your next carry class it automatically should click that you are deffinetly a permited carrier and a instructor to boot, so there shall be no question of you knowledge of the law and actions in carrying. By posing the question "If he'd like to attend your next class?" you've change the line of though to himself sitting in your class, not whether or not he thinks he can tackle you or not.

Now, if you're going to Open Carry, you better plan on having a non-confrontational response for just about everything. When you act like an ass, it reflects upon the whole carry community.

Oh, I've met those secret weapons of cute. And the smaller of the two is talkative enough that I doubt the guard would have gotten an entire sentence out. But he's adorable.

Then again, should the weapons of cute turn on the owner and start screaming and crying, a hasty exit might take precedence over the possible activism.

I think I am going to Rainbow for awhile and then walk over to the manager with my receipts and ask him/her
what might get done in the future to allow me back into his/her store without being singled out.

BTW I only flashed the card...I never let him get more than 4 feet from it.

the problem you will probably find is that it is a Company policy. Like Menards for example is not posted but the corporate policy is if a one is seen to ask them to leave the store. And when you are dealing with corporations they dont really care about how much one family spends in their store like the guy on the corner would, but they look at the bottom line that there are way less more people carrying than not carrying and having a majority of happy shoppers is far more important than the one.

I had a similar incident at Cub in SunRay a few weeks ago
security schmuck did a double take when I walked in... caught up with me mid-store and asked if I was a "police officer" I said no. He said he was trying to figure out if they had a policy.
I pointed out that the store has no signage and that I frequntly OC there... he said oh ok and walked away

Kid was way out of line for demanding to see your permit, and I would have nicely given him the readers digest version of the reasons I wasn't required to show him my permit, and asked him to have a nice day.

I open carried into Cub Foods on Lake Street 2 days ago. I wasn't intending to leave the car but the wife requested assistance with the bagging and I forgot to cover up.
I had no more than started helping the wife when the young, male (maybe19-20 year old) security guard approached me from behind.

Ah... I misread. I thought he was referring to putting bags in the car, not bagging in the store. If the store wasn't posted (and I personally haven't seen a Cub Foods that is,), the rest of my statement stands.

Does the owner of the property not have rights? If I was a property owner and I asked you to do something you do not feel I have the right to ask you to do do I not have the right to ask you to leave my property at anytime? So even though the permit holder is in the right does prudence and courtisy not rule the day?
