They used to keep one in the non-circulating reference sections.

<edit> - yeah the 2009 is available in the reference sections of Brookdale, Ridgedale, and Southdale.

And the 2006 edition is available for checkout at Southdale. It should get you with 10-20% of the price.

Cool thats good to know.

Depends on the type of gun and region. The Blue Book is a good starting point, however.

Thanks for doing the digging for me. I'll head the library next week.

Here's a tip: leave the guns at home.

Here's another: bring quarters for the photocopier.

if I can lay the book flat enough, I'll just take photos of the pertinent listings.

Picture are not the best way to evaluate, so this is "best guess" and should get you fairly close.
ie. there could be something that changes the value, but can't be seen in a photo.

Prices are approx. Retail

#1. Stevens Marksman, 1917-1933 a inexpensive .22 sold in hardware stores.if the bore is ok, Value=$125-150

#2. Savage 220. One of the only single shots made with no external hammer, Guys look for these. Value= $100-150

#3. Rem-510 smoothbore. 1939-62 Hard to find but not super collectible. Value=$200-250

#4. Win 1903. One of the first 22 auto loaders. 1903-1932 Very collectible-but in poor shape (from pic) Value=$300? can't see enough in the pic's

#5. Fn shotgun. Same as a Browning A-5 but uglier, stock may be short from original, Value= $150-200

#6. Called the "American Browning" 1940--47, Made by Remington for Browning. (20ga in any gun is always good) Value=$350-400

Thanks for your input. That gives me at least a ball park number to think about. I assume these are buy prices and not sell prices...is that correct?

In general the stocks are scratched up pretty good on all of the guns. The exterior metal is generally worn, with some surface rust here and there but nothing catastrophic. These have not been cleaned and oiled regularly but I think all of them would shoot fine with a little work. I've only looked down the barrel of a couple of them.

I hope to get more time this weekend to take better pictures.

I found out today that the guy has 8 or 9 boxes of the .22 Winchester Automatic ammo that he'll throw in if I buy the Winchester.

That Savage Model 220A .410 is pretty cool! If you were to ever wish to part with it, please keep me in mind.

The ammo might be more valuable than the gun Do not shoot it.

http://www.homesteadfirearms.com/parts/ ... id_791.htm $130 bucks for 500 round of new manufactured.... I have seen good condition boxes of the stuff run upwards of $50 a box.

Yes - the ammo collectors treat stuff like that like fine wine. They'll break a box out once a year on special occasions and savor shooting it.

I looked up the Blue Book values at Southdale Library today. Now I just need to determine what percent these firearms are.

Just a follow-up. I ended up buying 5 of these guns and my brother bought the 6th. I let him buy the 12ga. Belgian Browning because he's been wanting one for many years. I kind of regret being a nice guy now....I'd like to have it.

One nice surprise was that the day after I paid the guy, he brings in 11 full boxes of the .22 Automatic ammo and 2 partial boxes to go along with the Winchester 1903! That's worth more than I paid for the rifle. Now I need to get them all cleaned up and ready to take out on a date.

Well, at least your brother has it and not some stranger. Bet your brother might even let you shoot it.

Sounds like good results, especially the .22 auto.

I've been told I'm a decent wingman on dates... so... you know if you need help fouling those barrels...
