I'm pretty close to this.

Under the dust ruffle, quick access box with 9mm (loaded / chambered), spare mag, flashlight, hearing protection.

On way to "safe" area, 12 gauge with 7 buckshot in tube, ready to rack, and 5 more various rounds on stock.

In safe area, quick access box with Glock 22 (loaded / chambered) plus 2 spare mags, flashlight, hearing protection, 911-only cell phone.

Also in safe area box is loaded .44 special wheelgun with speed loader.

Those aren't nearly all the surprises I've got for goblins, but they are the standard ones.

Less for me, more for my wife (at least the plugs).

If I've got time to hole up in the safe area...why not? Those are amplified, so it's only going to help unless I need to shoot.

If I need it in a hurry? Well, there's gonna be a little ringing...

If you shoot and you need to shoot, you won't hear the gun go off.

Its like deer hunting, I never hear the gun go off when I am hunting, (and yes smarty pants Straddie, I am shooiting and hitting ) I never have ringing ears, either when hunting, even duck or pheasant hunting, when you might shoot a lot more.

From what I've read, damage is still being done; hearing loss is cumulative.

What?

Do any of you guys sleep wearing a bullet resistant vest? What about bullet resistant pillows?

My comforter has trauma plates sewed in.

ETA: For maximum protection, I usually just sleep in the safe.

My carry gun is only unloaded two way's- one by pulling the trigger or two for cleaning after doing one.

I guess this thread shows that everyone has a system.

I generally carry a .380 in a pocket holster when out and about, and I put it in the safe when I'm at home, pocket holster, magazine, and all, without unloading. I have full-size pistols in quick-access safes in several locations around the house and rely on those rather than my carry piece when at home.

+1 on the set-back. Depending on the round caliber, and gun. "keeping an eye on it" may not be sufficient, you might want to keep a caliber handy ;-).

That being said, my carry revolver is always loaded. When I do use a semi for HD (read as not on me) it's kept mag inserted not chambered. I can TRA pretty dam fast. I don't think there is anything wrong with cocked and locked. To each their own.
